I guess 2-4 isn't bad for Purdue's senior class @ Wisconsin. If I was a Wisconsin basketball fan, I would kill myself. What a disgusting style of play. Purdue should get them at home.

I would have loved Lickliter ball if we won at the level Wisconsin has. But yeah now I'm back to absolutely hating slow-paced basketball. If I were a Badger fan I would be more upset with knowing that the Sweet 16 was about the top end I could expect. It would be a lot of fun leading up to March, especially if you're a season ticket holder but are they ever going to get over that hump?

I think their "homecourt advantage" hurts them in that respect. You can't get breathed on for a foul in the tournament.

Yeah, they were in the bonus with around 11 minutes left in the second half. I try not to bitch because everyone in the Big Ten gets a home court edge but when the Sconnies went into the bonus they had only two fouls against them. *sigh*

The offensive foul call against PU made by Burr at the end of the game looked pretty iffy to me.

Not nearly as offensive as that no call against Leuer late in the game, when he was mauled and they swallowed whistles.

I'm a UW alum, my frosh year was Bo's first year and it always is interesting to read and hear about how awful it is to watch us play.

Probably just what we are raised on but I find it equally awful to watch almost the rest of the B1G play.

I have come to dearly value the basketball and each possession. Most every other team will gladly trade a few kicked basketballs for some fast break points. I'll take a PG with a top a:to ratio and one of the most efficient offenses in the nation over all this "roll the ball out and recklessly run" systems everyone wants to play.

I dont want to get into an argument because its just a stylistic thing. to each their own. Just what I've grown up rooting for (with Dick Bennett and now Bo) and what I've grown up rooting against.

Valuing each possession, being efficient and taking care of the ball is great. Being the slowest major-conference team in the country (and 340th of 347) are just annoying. When you have to do that because your short-handed or whatever I get it. Choosing to play that way is just odd. You can take care of the ball and value each possession without milking 29 seconds every time down the floor.

You're an established program with the ability to grab talent. You can still do all of those things Bo wants to do while not being the most boring team on TV every year.

Ryan came into the Big Ten at the right time. The talent level hasn't been that great over the last decade. It appears the league is now back on the rise, so it will be interesting to see how his system holds up. And a Wisconsin fan bitching about non calls at the Kohl Center is comical.

I know hilarious because Izzo says you breathe on us and we fall down so its true right?!?! I'm not saying anything about officiating, but you guys are overstating the Kohl thing as of late and as evidence we no longer make more FT's than our opponents attempt, like earlier in the century.

The myth about the swing is that it holds players back, however its quite the opposite. Harris and Tucker both excelled and were never on a leash. Same too with Penny, Tayler, Leuer, Kam Taylor, Mike Flowers, Mike Wilkinson, Landry etc...Its been a great thing for ignorant basketball talking heads to say about our style of play because they dont feel like doing their actual jobs and watching games.

That said, as long as ESPN keeps saying it, and the schools we recruit against keep saying it, it perpetuates itself into a believed reality. There is some legit top 50 HS talent in WI over the next 4 years, it will be interesting to see if we can close off our borders like the football team has.

Boring is in the eye of the beholder. Again, give me efficient offense with low turnovers to throwing the ball away and a few fast breaks. But the system is based on creating mismatches and getting the best shot available in a 35 second span. No one will get killed for attacking the basket and most (Leuer and Taylor esp) wont get killed for taking an open shot with 29 seconds LEFT on the shot clock.

WI high school basketball hasn't been traditionally very good. We've had to do our work in MN when they were down (Leuer, Taylor, Bruiser, Berggren) and IA when they were down(Uthoff, Bohanon etc) and are only recently doing "ok" in IL. In the next few years it will be key for WI to get Dekker, Tokoto and Koenig to stay in state.

Okay but efficient and taking care of the ball has nothing to do with pace. You can be efficient and take care of the ball while not taking 30 seconds every possession. Just like you can be a good defensive team and play up-tempo. It's not a knock on anything other than preference. No one likes watching slow-paced anything.

You're just kind of an upper class man's, slowdown version of Tom Davis Iowa teams in the '90's. Everyone knows what you're doing, it works well in the regular season but then you're not really a threat to do much in the tournament. Don't get me wrong, I'd kill to have even that level back for this past decade. I just think Ryan is in the position where he could expand on what he's done but he chooses not to.

*The boring in the eye of the beholder is just because you're a fan of a slow team. I talked myself into that argument while Lickliter was here even though I knew inside that I hated it and I hate it even more now that I don't have to defend it. No one likes watching 30 seconds of dribbling and passing unless they absolutely have to.

Sweet we won. Keep them coming boys. Nice effort by Mike Davis tonight.

I guess I'll credit Davis for finally playing up to his capabilities. It also helps that Penn State had to play small. Davis has given me no reason to believe that he's capable of playing like this consistently over the last nine games. He finally acted like he isn't afraid of contact. Tisdale played soft yet again. How many games this year have we lost the opening tip because he creates a tip violation? We still stink from 3 pt land and based on Penn State's travel nightmare, we should've buried them in the first half. Don't mean to be a downer but I know some fans may think we have turned the corner.

It was nice to get a win, but I didn't see much that was encouraging. McCamey still looks like crap, Tisdale is still wasting Leonard's minutes, shooting was poor and we've seen this hide and seek act from Davis a few too many times. PSU looked sluggish we took advantage of that, but it could have been a blowout early.

The foul calls against Jackson and Barlow on the perimeter early in the second half were garbage. Barlow does a good enough job getting into foul trouble on his own, he doesn't need to have phantom fouls called on him.

We could run off 4 straight road wins vs ranked teams and I won't believe we "turned a corner" This team is going to be schizophrenic, and that seems to be about it. McCamey's been playing like he has a blood disorder the past month.

I believe Tisdale's only been called for the tip violation 2 or 3 times. He's won virtually every other tip because he cheats on it every time. I'll take that ratio

Can I start calling Mike Tisdale's game Eurotrash again yet?

Why would you have ever stopped? I did enjoy seeing Davis appear to have a pulse last night, but as has been mentioned, Penn State had guys my size going up against him (I'm 5'9").

Watford will need surgery now for his broken left hand. If Jones isn't back, I have no idea where Indiana is going to turn to for scoring.

What awful news. Just when I thought perhaps IU had turned a (small) corner . . .

Sure hope Jones is back soon. Scoring will be non-existant without him, Watford, and Creek. Really too bad, because this week offered two winnable games.

Travel issues aside, Illinois did a good job on defense all night. They bottled up Battle, and with Brooks injured, the rest of the team looked scared to shoot the ball. PSU is going to set a record for poor bench play this year
