I had forgotten all about Scott Martin's existence. He'll have two years left that he can play?

Yes sir. There was actually a rumor floated that he could've returned towards the end of this season, but that was quickly defused.

Anything on the DePaul and Oregon jobs?

It sounds like there is some mutual interest between Iowa and Scott Drew which is a little surprising. I know he's hated by Big 12 coaches and most of it seems to be centered on negative recruiting. I think Pearl can be ruled out but one of his assistants, Steve Forbes might be in the mix. He's from near Iowa City, was a JUCO head coach and has been an assistant under Gillispie at A&M and Pearl at Tennessee. He's supposed to be a stud recruiter and is campaigning for the job.

imo, iowa is a better job than either depaul or oregon, and it sucks that iowa is looking to hire a new coach. i loved lickliter.

DePaul, yes. Supposedly they may pay big money and everyone says it could be a good job because of the talent in Chicago but that program is dead.

I think Oregon has more potential than Iowa because of the insane money and the Pac-10 being down. Iowa can pay over $2M and has a $40M new practice facility and Carver renovation that will make it more attractive but the coaches in the league are ridiculous and you can't really cut many corners in the Big Ten.

at oregon you have to work very hard for recruits, though, which is a huge part of coaching college basketball. more than a few big time talents come out of seattle, but those guys are snatched up by UW, gonzaga, UCLA, and arizona. Kent had to bust his ass to get the illinois kids and forgot to do coaching of any kind. iowa is close to chicago and can easily get the middle-tier kids from illinois--a good coach can field a very competitive team with these guys supplemented with a few minnesota and iowa players.

Tubby's going to be rumored for every Big 6 job opening in the country until he dies.

Wouldn't mind him leaving the conference. Get Minnesota back to being sub average.

i just don't see any of those rotten jobs being better than minny. especially if minny can match.

oregon is a bad job as i've already outlined in this thread, and auburn has probably had more high profile successes, but it's in [expletive] alabama!!!!!

All this talk about Scott Drew's shadiness is coming as a huge surprise to me after hearing nothing but great things from my parents who personally know his dad.

Neither Bama or The Barn are that attractive of a place for basketball coaches, especially high profile like Tubby. So I don't know why he would say he has no interests in Bama (thank the freakin' god he turn Bama down) but would be interesting in going to Cow College? I think Tubby to Auburn is more wishful thinking then anything.

Why thank God he turned down Bama? Anthony Grant is a nice coach, but he's not Tubby

Because in some ways he is much like Rich Rodriguez in that he isn't as good as his hype says he is. He isn't a bad coach, and neither is Grant (who I think will bolt Bama at the first opportunity, mind you) but Bama needed a guy like Grant moreso then Smith.

Tubby has been a successful head coach for 20 years. Rodriguez had a successful 6 year run with West VA

other than that and some other stuff, they're pretty much the same

I have a lot of respect for Homer Drew. Scott, not so much.

When Baylor was the leader for John Wall it was because they were going to be hiring his coach as well IIRC.

They did hire his AAU coach. Lot of good that did them.

I was wondering if he is still there or will continue to be there.

...no mention of IU basketball yet in this thread. IU fans can't get excited for year 3 of Crean, and I think that says something. I expected years 1 and 2 to be disasters because of the condition of the program, but I'm disappointed that IU isn't closer to being relevant again. I'll say it again....They really needed Crean to deliver a strong...ok, adequate (dang, I'd settle for 'not a disaster') 2010 recruiting class.
