He has problems, but he's started 12 games on a team that had almost literally no offensive talent and was yanked around like no 1st round signal-caller I've ever seen. There are some far worse QBs that have gotten far more time than he got. I can only hope he can beat out Kyle Orton in Denver.

Matt Leinart says hello.

How was Leinert yanked around? He battled for the starting job his first 2 years and then became the backup to the clearly superior QB. I don't know that I agree with Andy re BQ, but Leinert was just given the backup job b/c Warner was a better QB the last couple years. He has a role and it's pretty clearly defined. That's not really being yanked around.

Well it's been clearly defined now...but he was drafted, given the starting job after a few games when Warner sucked, was pretty mediocre, but was a rookie. Got injured the next season, and never really got a chance to try to improve, because Warner had a good camp.

Maybe "yanked around" isn't the right phrase. But I don't think he's been given a great shot to develop as you'd expect a #1 pick to get.

Leinart hasn't been handled the best either, although he was on a team with some talent. Right now the Browns have no talent at any offensive skill position (save, I suppose, Jerome Harrison - I'm not really counting Cribbs because his main talent lies at returner) and they got rid of any talent that they did have, like Winslow and Edwards, for baggage reasons.

The thing that makes me laugh is that they're going to give Jake Delhomme the starting job, who sucked last year when he was on a team pretty stocked with offensive talent (Smith, the two running backs). That's going to be horrible.

Holmgren seemed surprised that Delhomme was available.

I couldn't believe anyone would be surprised by that. I also was scratching my head when Delhomme said he was (essentially) shocked that he was let go.

I'm just not sure where the 'unexpected' piece comes in. He's been absolutely horrendous. I would have been more surprised if Carolina tried to continue with him in any kind of a starter role.

Cleveland is getting a QB who doesn't have much, if anything, left.

He's been out of the league for about as long as Delhomme has sucked, correct? When he left, Jake was still respected.

Tebow's going to New York.

Per a report from Chris Mortensen of ESPN.com, Tebow has landed an invite to New York City for April’s NFL draft.

According to a recent report from Alex Marvez of FoxSports, the NFL may want to have some players likely to be drafted at the beginning of the second round in attendance for the cameras—since round two kicks off on Friday night.

The ones people have heard of. They should probably invite more than normal, since they have 2 prime time nights to fill.

I hate this format.

So that they can showcase some of the players while most people are watching – early in each day's broadcast – I'd say.

I still don't see why they couldn't leave the entire thing on Saturdays like always.

Because enough people show interest to think they can get better ratings, and more ad revenue, in primetime. What I don't get is how the three day event can work.

I guess, I don't know if they'll get big ratings as the draft wears on. Seems like most of the casual fan interest would wane after the first round.

Whitehurst to the Seahawks.

Per the report, Seattle will send a 2011 third-round draft pick and move down 20 positions in the second round of this year's draft to San Diego for Whitehurst. The Seahawks don't have a third-round pick in this year's draft, so they had to work out a trade to acquire him.

Plus, the Seahawks have agreed to a two-year contract with the former Clemson quarterback that will average $5 million annually.

Wait a minute....Seattle won't part with the 6th pick overall for an Pro Bowl WR, but are willing to swapped 2nd round picks and add a 3rd rd pick in 2011 for a QB who is 27 and has not thrown a pass in the NFL? Call me crazy, but isn't that kinda dumb?

It's more than I thought they'd trade for him, but Whitehurst has a strong arm and ideal build for an NFL quarterback. He hasn't thrown an NFL pass because he's been behind one of the best QBs in the league (Rivers) and one of the better backups (Volek). It's not because he's not capable.

And the 6th pick in the draft has a lot more value than a swap of second round picks and a 3rd rounder in next year's draft.

To get to switch 2nd rd picks and get a 3rd pick for a guy on potential, is awfully high risk for the Seahawks. I get the intangibles, but the man is 27 going on 28 already (in August) so the Hawks acquired a guy who should be going into his peak as a QB, but instead will prolly be making his starting debut in 2011 at what 29 years old. I hope it's worth it.

There's a good chance he'll be the starter in 2010. That said, I agree it'd be very ideal if he were a couple years younger (and he's older than I originally thought). Keep in mind, though, that hitting 30 isn't the same for a quarterback as it is for most players. Plenty of QBs are highly successful - and even have some of their best years - well into their 30s.

Seattle still has Matt Hasselbeck. So unless Matt comes out playing like crap, there's almost no chance Whitehurst is a starter in 2010.

As for the statement s QBs and their primes I agree, but only if they have the weapons around them to succeed which I don't see in Seattle, outside of John Carlson.

I could easily see the Seahawks make Hasselbeck the backup if Whitehurst impresses from now to the season opener. Even if Whitehurst doesn't start, though, Hasselbeck has been injury prone, meaning Whitehurst will still get decent playing time most likely.

If the Seahawks don't get the weapons for a QB to succeed, it doesn't matter if they have a 22-year-old #1 pick in the draft or a 27 year old who hasn't started a game in 3 years in the league.
