beane must have owed hendry a favor something. or he's buttering him up now so he can screw us on a trade later.

J.P. Blevins and Mike Wuertz

Cubs have given up Damien Miller, Jerry Blevins, Mike Wuertz, Rob Bowen, Sean Gallagher, Eric Patterson, Josh Donaldson and Matt Murton

In return they've gotten Rich Harden, Michael Barrett, Jason Kendall, Chad Gaudin, Richie Robnett, and Justin Sellers.

I'd say Hendry is whupping Beane's ass right now.

And I guess tehcnically anyway, that Josh Hamilton was traded by us for cash, but I don't hold it against Hendry(as we weren't going to take him in the Rule V anyway, although it would be awfully damn nice to have him right about now obviously).

Only in a very technical sense.

The Cubs were offered that cash for their draft slot (which they didn't plan to use). They didn't have any idea who they were going to draft for the Reds until minutes before the draft.

Yeah, the Wuertz trade is the only one that Beane has really won. Even the Blevins trade hasn't been a problem for the Cubs after they got a little lucky and managed to net Flaherty because of Kendall.

Hearing about this trade made me think of this post:

It doesn't matter if you're a rookie when you're a future triple crown winner. Jake Fox is the best batter the Cubs have! He needs to play every single day, or be traded to a team that will actually play him. A team with good sense. I hear the Cardinals are looking to mix up their OF.

Jake.... (inhale) Fox... (and let it out). Ahh. That's refreshing.

This guy is presently:

a) hyperventilating

b) opening a Jake Fox-themed joke account at an A's site

c) a and b

I'm guessing "c".

With respect to the matter at hand, I haven't been this pleased with a low-profile trade since Hendry flipped Neifi for Chris Robinson. That may be the only positive memory I have of the '06 season.

So who's our new whipping boy? In light of the ridiculous extension he was given I nominate Grabow.

Pending future Hendry moves, I'm with you. I fear, however, that this might get much worse before it gets better...

I predict the Cubs will pick up an FA off the garbage pile this winter who will fill that role effectively.

My money's on Alex Cora.

Cora's already with Mets for 2MIL! haha

I know Fox fits in the AL as DH, the only thing I don't like about getting rid of him is he's a great guy to have on the bench for us late in the game, when we all know we have a very thin bench, but if thats what it takes to get rid of Miles, then what the hell, why not?..

You would be wrong.

With regards to the trades he mentioned??

absolutely. Hendry traded a dependable reliever, a all star caliber setup man, a mediocre first basemen and a utility player.

For garbage and rich harden.

No, I'm not.

Edit:

Stupid swear filter ruined the other part of what I wanted to say, so allow me to rephrase.

You aren't smart enough to be dismissive of others opinions... especially without giving reasons why. You merely come off as an ass.

He would have been a perfect fit, too. :(

so three years of a catcher putting up an OPS around .840 is garbage? good one.

I was part of the minority that wasn't in a hurry to get rid of Fox... so I'm not too thrilled about that... but the fact that we got rid of Miles in the process makes everything okay. I'll sleep better knowing he's gone.

I nominate our starting right fielder, Garrett Anderson.

I was a fan of Fox as well, but just look at it as giving up Jake Fox and $1,000,000 for a decent middle reliever, 2 respectable prospects and the departure of Aaron Miles.

There is only 1 respectable answer and that is Alfonso Soriano. He was worse than Bradley last year and is effectively stealing $18M/year from the Cubs for the next 5 seasons and not allowing us to sign any big free agents this year and probably a few years down the road. Thanks for sucking Alfonso.

As an aside, I went to look at the depth chart to see who would be backing up Aramis now that Fox was gone (Font and Baker), and I see that they have Colvin as the starting CF, with Fuk coming off the bench...

Obviously a depth chart on Cubs.com means nothing, but interesting/funny to see nonetheless.

It stillmakes me wonder what were going to do about a righty off the bench or 4th outfielder. Fuld,Colvin, and Hoffpauir are all leftyies, and the closet thing we have to a major league ready bat in Iowa is Brad Snyder, also left handed. Any chance we re sign Reed?

I'm pretty sure, not positive (but I've always gotten this impression) that SZJ essentially just trolls here re: all the crap Hendry gets. In other words, he's making fun of the way that Hendry can't do anything right on NSBB.
