warren moon threw 26 at 30, jurgensen threw 26 at 28, fouts threw 24 at 28 and 29, dan marino threw 23 at 27 and 25.

i could go on and on.

But dude, I mean all those guys stink just like Cutler though, so I don't see your point.

I can't believe you didn't have any friends in high school.

Haha, reminds me of the time in entourage when Ari is arguing over his settlement price with Terrance, "Hard to believe you've been married four times."

You specifically said you'd rather have 2400-yard, 15-TD, 10-pick seasons.

Yeah, that's one of the single, dumbest things I have ever read on this board.

The only thing remotely comparable in the recent NFL would be JaMarcus Russell's 2008.

So yes, that response went about four steps too far.

People are freaking out because you are looking solely at the picks and ignoring that, despite the picks, Cutler still had a very good season for the Bears. He threw for 3666 yards and 27 TD's (both 2nd in team history to Kramer's '95 season).

You are also completely ignoring that the rest of the offense, particularly the Oline, was not good at all. Cutler was sacked 35 times, 4th most in team history. The receivers are young and green -- but they have potential.

He's also only 26 years old.

Cutler is a marked upgrade over Orton or Grossman and is a legitimate franchise QB. He needs to work on decision-making in the red zone and, yes, he needs to cut down on his picks, absolutely. But the investment of 2 first round picks (and Orton) for a QB of Cutler's calibre is absolutely worth it. Cutler will be a Bear for a long time -- 10 years was bandied about. In the last 10 years, the Bears have spent two 1st round picks, a 4th and a 5th on QB's. None of the picks developed into a franchise QB, though the 4th pick is better than a journeyman. They sent that 4th to Denver. The Bears have that franchise QB now and in the system; they don't have to draft and spend time developing a QB. That is worth the cost of the future picks. There's a reason you don't see teams trading good QBs or letting them go easily. The NFL is a passing league, having stability in the QB position is critical to success and finding a franchise QB is very difficult and kind of a crapshoot.

I'm not ignoring any of those things. I've fully acknowledged them repeatedly. I just don't place the same weight on them that you guys do, especially when metered out on a per-pass basis.

If you assume that Cutler will be good enough and healthy enough to be the Bears' starter for the next 10 years, then absolutely it will have been worth it.

I guess this falls into the category of rumor, and I'm not sure who this source is. Interesting to see what is going to happen the next few hours.

I LOL'd after hearing that both NE and Philly made offers to Peppers, after hearing Mike & Mike list them as great teams who never go after FA's.

Peyton Manning at age 25 had 23 picks. 26 touchdowns, 23 picks......more yards of course (4131) but since yards and touchdowns don't matter who cares right? lol

Since when do Philly and NE not go after free agents?

Philly doesn't fiddle with the salary cap like Washington does, and New England is known for being more than happy to let their own free agents walk, but both of these organizations go hard after free agents with regularity.

I fully believe Cutler could have Warren Moon's career with the right surrounding cast. Jurgensen isn't modern era. Fouts is a reasonable comp that puts Cutler in a very positive light, excellent point. Marino's high pick totals came in many, many more attempts.

it should also be pointed out that at the age of 27, during the season that marino had "many, many more attempts" than cutler, marino threw for just 1 more touchdown.

I know. I saw the whole thing this morning as I was walking out the door, and it just struck me as terribly misinformed, lazy banter with nothing to back it up. Greenburg went so far as to say "we know this never works." And then compared the Bears to the Redskins.

We know what? We know that the Redskins didn't translate FA acquisitions into success on the field. But that's about it.

Rolle, Atogwe, Clark, and now Gibril Wilson available too...

I'm psyched about Peppers, and happy that we may be entering next season with an upgraded RB platoon, but with this many above average safties available I'll be EXTERMELY disappointed if we don't upgrade there as well.

Exactly how I feel. Can't complain about bringing in Peppers and Taylor. Because Lovie came out and said the S position needs to be upgraded I'm fairly confident with the money they're throwing around one of them will be brought in, especially since they already were in negotiations with Rolle.

Wilson is awful though, and Rolle isn't going to happen now. Hopefully Atogwe or Clark are now on Chicago's radar.

I think our entire secondary will look a lot better with Peppers on the defensive line.

Absolutely. Still would be nice to get an actual safety, though.

I'm more concerned about the QB position, he's the reason the secondary struggled so much. It was so easy to pick him off in practice that they couldn't figure out real QBs in games.
