Speaking of Big XII coaching vacancies:

Colorado:

Sources close to the situation tell us that Athletic Director Mike Bohn is interviewing former Colorado/UCLA coach and current Miami WR Coach Karl Dorrell this weekend. Our source also confirmed that Oklahoma Defensive Coordinator, Brent Venables, seems to be the best candidate in the search process so far.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

What a difference a year makes. Last year at this time I couldn't wait for the telecast of the Ball State vs. Central Michigan game. Tonight their game was televised on ESPN II and I didn't bother watching.

I went. It was depressing. This week we got word that we're doing a home-and-home with a freaking FCS team in 2013-14. When we visit Illinois State in 2013 it will be the first FBS at FCS matchup since '04. And our stupid athletic director admitted that he hadn't looked at the facts on that but still claimed that such matchups 'happen all the time'.

To think that a year ago our biggest problem was that we hadn't beaten Miami (OH) by enough to move up in the BCS.

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Just when it sounds like KU head football coach Mark Mangino is about to lose his job, comes another report.

Now this investigation could be focusing on athletic director Lew Perkins.

NBC Sports is reporting that Perkins could be on the hot-seat for under-mining Mangino.

Another report was circulating Thursday that Mark Mangino would be fired Friday. Mike Strauss of the KU Athletic Department said there's no truth to the reports. It's a complete rumor.

I'm guessing the Fiesta Bowl is taking Oklahoma State if their eligible, so Boise State's BCS hopes now rest on Oklahoma.

You think the Fiesta would take a Big Ten team and Okie State?

Here's how I see it as of now:

NC- Fla/Bama vs. Texas

Rose- Ohio State vs. Oregon

Sugar- Fla/Bama vs. Cincinnati

Orange- Georgia Tech vs. TCU

Fiesta- Iowa/PSU vs. Boise

I think it would be tough to sell two 2 loss teams over undefeated Boise with a win over Oregon. If they got Iowa they wouldn't have to worry much about ticket sales and Boise would probably bring nearly as many people as Okie State.

The Fiesta Bowl is tied to the Big 12 and from what I hear, they might want to stay in conference for their at-large. I'm pretty sure they're a bigger draw than the Broncos as well, though not as much as some other BCS teams. For selections, I would guess it goes:

Sugar - SEC loser

Fiesta - Oklahoma St

Orange - Iowa/PSU

Fiesta - TCU

Sugar - Cincinnati

Leading to:

MNC: SEC winner v Texas

Rose: Ohio St v Pac10

Sugar: SEC loser v Cinci/Pitt

Orange: Iowa/PSU v ACC

Fiesta: TCU v Oklahoma St

That's assuming Oklahoma State beats Oklahoma, which would be a sizable upset. Now that I look at that, that's a terrible match up for the Fiesta. Maybe they do go Big 10, but I think the Orange would still take a BCS team like Oklahoma St or (gasp) USC. We'll see who's eligible at the end of the season, but I still think the bowls avoid taking Boise if they can.

Edit: VT is in the hunt too, but the Orange can't take them.

i dunno, these bowls have a gravy train going right now, they'd be stupid to shun boise state (who beat oregon, who completely rolled usc) and take an unimpressive three-loss usc team. that's the sort of thing that gets people's ire up and you end up with protests and congressional investigations and crap. just take a high-profile team and boise st, you'll do fine.

USC is out of it unless a bunch of teams lose. Virginia Tech is toast. The SEC loser and TCU are locks for at-large picks. The pool to choose the next two teams will come from Iowa, Penn State, Boise, Okie State and Pitt/Cincy loser. Unless something crazy happens I think it will be a Big Ten and Boise.

The first picks go to the Sugar Bowl and then the Fiesta. Sugar will definitely take the SEC loser. Iowa needs to hope the Fiesta selects them with the next pick. Supposedly they're in good shape for the Fiesta but if they were passed over on the first pick, the Orange would rather have PSU than Iowa so they would be shut out. The Big East will be the final pick to the Sugar playing Bama/Fla and I don't see either of them being an at-large draw.

If OU beats Okie State and Michigan State beats PSU and Cincy beats Pitt I think it becomes academic. First three would be as you said then GT vs. TCU and Iowa vs. Boise in the Fiesta.

OK State? Surely not. Sheesh, I know it's a rather week year, but they've done next to nothing. Their "big" win is Georgia, who stinks. Their next best win is, I guess, Missouri. They were throttled by Texas. This is not a BCS team.

Agreed. But they are in the top 14 of the BCS and the Fiesta could feel some pressure to take a Big 12 replacement for Texas since they have the Big 12 tie-in.

If it were about who "deserved" it more, no one would even be considering PSU over Iowa.

Oh, I know deserve isn't the entire calculus at all, but I never gave much thought to Oklahoma State being an option.

And Kansas wouldn't have been picked over Missouri a couple years ago.

Yes, everyone understands the most deserving teams don't always go. That's not exactly a revelation.
