Cubs need to have a sit down with Bradley, air grievances, and bring him back another year instead of just giving him away for nothing. He's normally a productive player, and was one of our best OBP guys last season on their team. He wasn't the only reason why they hovered around .500 the whole season.

You can be sure the Cubs have nothing new to say that Bradley hasn't been told many times before under similar circumstances. This is not exactly uncharted water for this dude.

The guy is what he is, and expecting him to change his stripes now is pretty silly, especially as a result of some reconciliatory meeting.

Of course he is, but he's an extremely productive player. Bradley's replacement in RF and his possible replacement (Cameron) in CF aren't as productive as he is and both are older than he is.

That should be the Cubs' Festivus plan. :D

Which makes it even more inexplicable how the Cubs have changed from needing to sign him to needing to trade him. He was exactly what you should have expected last year.

I totally get that perspective. Just don't bother with the sit-down, and don't expect the shenanigans to be any different.

The thing is, rightly or wrongly, the Cubs have decided they can't live with the shenanigans. At least I give them credit for realizing this is a "take it or leave it" sort of deal, and they can't expect Bradley's behavior and attitude to be any different no matter what they do or say.

Is Cameron that much less productive than Bradley overall? Cameron had a better eqa last year and plays much better defense than Bradley at a tougher defensive position. Bringing in Cameron also allows us to move Kosuke to right and significantly improve the defense there as well.

Bradley's 2007 and 2008 numbers certainly blow Cameron away, but most of the time they're kinda similar.

Let's quit kidding ourselves, Bradley is a good hitter with injury and anger issues. If he was "an extremely productive player" someone would have taken advantage of the fact Hendry is basically giving him away and willing to pay a big chunk of his contract. Awhile ago we had a discussion about whether Bradley's attitude negated his ability on the field. Here's the answer to that from MLBTR:

Indians, Blue Jays Eyeing Marcus Thames

By Tim Dierkes [December 11 at 3:26pm CST]

The Indians and Blue Jays have interest in free agent outfielder Marcus Thames, reports Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports. Thames, 33 in March, hit .252/.323/.453 in 294 plate appearances this year, logging 125 innings in left field. He's also spent time at right field and first base in his career. Thames earned $2.275MM this year, and the Tigers let him go in November.

Thames is better against left-handed pitching. His 2007-09 splits: .263/.326/.541 against lefties, .233/.281/.461 against righties.

Hendry is willing to take a bad contract off your hands and pay all of Bradley's 2nd year and they would rather go after Marcus Thames.

Bradley IS a very productive player, although he was down a little this season in some areas. That said, if you combine the fact that he was down a little this year, is injury prone, has a horrible attitude, and the Cubs desperation to trade him all into one, it's pretty apparent as to why the Cubs are having trouble finding any takers.

Apparently I have a different definition of very productive player (Davell) and extremely productive player (Rusch 33) than some of you. I still say if he was as productive as some of you claim, somebody would be take him when Hendry is offering him for next-to-nothing.

In 2008 Bradley was an extremely productive player. Career wise he has only been above average.

Yeah dude, extremely productive. He was only 16th on his team in VORP last year, between Aaron Heilman and Esmailin Caridad (I am not sure if pitchers VORP and hitting VORP can be compared and ranked against one another but whatever)

If OPSing .999 isn't extremely productive, I have no idea what is. How would you define extremely productive?

This is a pointless argument.

The vast majority of the time when Bradley's healthy, he's very good. Last year's power outage was an obvious fluke... his IsoP hasn't been that low since 2001.

i think umfan confused 2008 for 2009

I did. Whoopsies. Bradley was extremely good in 2008 when healthy. But for whatever reasons he was a below average player in 09.

It's because we had him, ofcourse. :-&

Regardless of the ongoing talks with other teams, if the Cubs are sure Bradley won't be on the team next year (trade/released) - to get their $22M worth - Hendry should continue to tell Bradley and his agents they plan to keep him - just to play w/ his head.

I didn't read all 36 pages (sorry, it's too damn long), but is there ANY possibility the Cubs keep Bradley? Any possibility he rolls into Spring Training with the Cubs while they look for a suitable trading partner. Or any chance he's on the Opening Day roster?

Chances Bradley is on the Cubs Opening Day roster = 1 in 1,000,000
