Here's my impersonation of a casual Cubs fan:

"Ah, the winter meetings are over. Let's head over to NSBB and see what the Cubs did. Ah, they picked up a pitcher in the Rule V draft and... nothing else.

Wait, Milton Bradley is still on the team?"

That's your impersonation of me.

That's a pretty good impression of me as well.

Have a press conference with Hendry, Lou, Bradley, Jaramillo and Ricketts and make up some crap about putting everything behind us and moving forward and emphasize Jaramillio and him and Milton working together and Milton's year in Texas with Jaramillio and then tell everyone to STFU and move on. Bat Milton #2 and tell him he can refuse to talk to the press like he wanted to do in the first place when he got here.

That would be fine with me. But Milton isn't without blame here. He needs to change his attitude a bit and at least have a professional relationship with teammates and other Cubs employees.

Sounds like Bradley had a professional relationship with most of his teammates.

Just sign Cameron, move Fukudome to Right, Bradley to Left, and Soriano to Second. Then just have a whole bunch of fun watching your 2010 Chicago Cubs.

That outfield defense would be very good.

Let Theriot and Fontenot share duties at 2nd and put Soriano at SS. That way you only have one weak defensive position on the field.

That would seriously improve the lineup but I doubt it happens unfortunately.

I like your thinking. :D

To be honest, i wouldn't mind Soriano playing 2nd but i dont think his legs will hold up. I dont think it would be much of a drop off from Fontenot playing second, fontenot wasn't exactly a gold glove caliber SS.

If it's Burrell (sp?) for Bradley it's one unmovable contract for another. I don't know how the Cubs can spin Burrell without having to pay for him too.

Anyway, I'd put Burrell in LF and move Soriano back to 2nd and pretend like defense doesn't matter or else try to out slug teams for the first 7 innings.

Amen, too bad Fox isn't around to play third on Aram's off days. That would be some entertaining baseball.

Can't have Jake around, he said he liked Bradley, and that he was helpful towards him when he came up. Ergo, Jake Fox is also a cancer.

It'd be a huge dropoff defensively. Last year, Fontenot had a 5.5 UZR/150 at second base. The last year Soriano played 2B (2005), he posted a -15.1 UZR/150. Considering that was four years ago, he probably won't be that good in 2010.

and I can't believe I'm getting sucked into this conversation.

It's a pretty stupid one.

Does it always have be about race. Maybe it's just about Bradley being a petulant ass while in Chicago, just like he's been his entire career.

This really just needs to be done with. Not because the team will be better or worse with or without him, but because he is too much of a mental midget to deal with the situation like an adult.

It's only stupid if you don't know what is being said. I never said hating Milton Bradley makes you racist. I never said wanting him gone makes you racist. I never said anything of the sort. I've said repeatedly I think he's an ass. My point is that the mythological creature that is the Cubs fan who would abandon the team due to the presence of Milton Bradley is probably going to be a racist person. It's really not a controversial statement. It makes no accusation about anybody here because I'm fairly certain nobody here is going to abandon the Cubs (even if several people threaten to every season).

I'm talking about somebody saying, "I love the Cubs. But Milton Bradley is still on the team so I'm done with the team." A) It's very unlikely to happen. B) That rare creature is probably motivated by racial tendencies.

Try as you might, your stance here isn't any less ignorant or preposterous.

If hating Milton Bradley doesn't make one racist, and wanting him gone doesn't make one racist, then why on earth would abandoning a team that Bradley plays for make one racist? How in the world is that the tipping point?

And as someone else asked earlier, what if the person abandoning the team due to the presence of Milton Bradley is himself an African-american? That person's racist too huh?

(BTW great work in those Geico commercials.)

a bradley/hermedia set of options really wouldn't be bad, and would come much cheaper than bay or holliday. i think theo worries more about productivity than chemistry, and could see him vulturing all over hendry's corpse.

I don't think you are correct about what Theo values. Bill James was on WGN radio a few weeks ago and said while the Boston front office doesn't value stats like RBIs, they do take into consideration the player's personality. He said they would not have been interested in Bradley. Interestingly enough though, he told Kaplan if the Cubs don't want Zambrano to give the Red Sox a call. I think Kaplan was shocked by this because it came at a time when he was saying Zambrano isn't a good pitcher because he only won 9 games in 2009.

I really think Theo just likes to advertise that he doesn't subscribe to conventional wisdom to evaluate baseball players.

He did hire Bill James.

Brian Roberts, Jake Peavy, and now Milton Bradley. These rumors/not true reports are so aggravating. "He's almost gone....wait, no they don't want him". "The train has left the station".

Milton Bradley won't be gone from chicago until February 5th. Book it. Do I have inside info? Do I have connections with the "secret team"? Only time will tell.

I envision Bradley donning a costume like this:

This organization's ability to accomplish absolutely nothing is beyond infuriating. I realize the offseason has only just begun, but you have teams out there making deals left and right, while we can't even rid ourselves of the guy we need to in order to make other deals, which is further proof that last offseason was the worst Cubs fans have seen in a long time. We've spent the first portion of this offseason unloading or trying to unload our two main offensive acquisitions from last year, Bradley and Miles. Hendry has dug himself a huge hole that I'm not sure he can get himself out of.
