In terms of how it impacts one's teammates' ability to hit/pitch/catch/run, no I can't see a difference.

Describe one way that Milton Bradley's presence on the Cubs roster would affect Lee's ability to hit (I seem to recall he hit pretty good this year), pitch/catch or run. Describe one way that a professional athlete making millions of dollars would allow their hatred for a teammate to affect his play on the field.

Just one.

Well "by committing murder" has been nominated. So has "by committing rape".

Those seem just as silly to me as "by acting like a jerk".

You think it's silly to not want to cheer on a rapist? Most ballplayers are jerks, very few are convicted rapists or murderers.

So why is there a line being drawn at illegal behavior, is what I'm asking.

Illegal behavior is just that. Teammates actually forgive that, also. Heck, Michael Vick kills puppies and he's still playing pro sports.

The question is how is anything Milton said or did this year affecting the play of his teammates?

No, the question is how would committing a crime affect the play of his teammates?

How did we get through 60+ pages without violating Godwin's Law?

no actually i don't hate silva. i have no opinion on him. seriously. when i say "throw him under the bus" i mean as in joining the majority of the cubs fans in this thread who are hate silva as much as they love major fancrush on bradley.

Oh, Jesus Christ. Get a freaking clue. "love major fancrush on bradley". Yeah...that's what's happening here.

Carlos Silva a horrible, horrible baseball player with an even worse contract. Nobody hates him, they just think he sucks. This isn't hard to figure out.

I didn't say that at all.

But as jersey cubs fan has said (paraphrasing), who cares what the fans think or whether they like the players.

The real knife in the back here is that Bradley has been traded for a guy who is basically untradeable. He might as well have a no trade clause built into that contract, because some team's bus full of starting pitchers could drive off a cliff, and still no one will come calling on Carlos Silva. One year is bad enough, but two years is unbelievable.

I can't believe there are actually people trying to shine this turd. I guess I always knew there were some people that would defend Hendry no matter what, but this is a new low.

Well I'm glad we saved 6m, so we can use that salary towards add a replace for Bradley. It sucked things happen like this but from what I understand there was just no way Bradley could come back. As for getting Carlos Silva, well thats pretty much blahhh. Hopefully we can turn him around to being a Jason Marquis like 5th starter. If we can't well then I say we should just release him and eat the 17m. There's no need to have Silva on the roster unless he's at least a serviceable pitcher. I doubt Ricketts is gonna give Hendry anymore money. So If Hendry is gonna put a good team on the field, he's gonna need a little luck and need to get some good players without it costing him much money. So basically he will have to replace Bradley production for the amount we saved on him or a little more. So I guess we will have to see what happens the rest of the offseason.

welp, let's see here...

saved about 6m on this. so, if hendry were to give grabow a reasonable contract of, let's say, 2m, then all of a sudden 7.5m is freed up. guess who we could have signed with 7.5m?

so sick of this crap

Who ever said that it would?

considering Silva as a sunk cost Bavasi saddled Jack Z with, the Mariners are effectively paying Bradley $6m over two years, and should get tremendous production from him

but for 2/6m we just end up with Aaron Miles or 2/3 of John Grabow

Just for curiousity's sake, what was the length of time between Aaron Miles and Carlos Silva getting on the roster?

Meanwhile, Lookout Landing is ecstatic about this trade.

It is funny to see them say things like "We can fix him" and "We have a tight knit clubhouse that can handle a malcontent". Soon it will be "He's saying all the right things, I think he really wants to fit in here"

why wouldn't they be ecstatic about the trade? they just hit the jackpot

Here's to Milton Bradley continue the trend of messing up a team's chemistry. I hate that the Cubs are saddled with Silva, but watching Bradley self-destruct and kill any kind of hope Seattle might have at being good next season will be fun to watch.

...

THE CUBS' BAD SEASON HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH CHEMISTRY.

Bad chemistry didn't take out Aramis for almost half a season, make Soriano and Soto terrible or turn 2nd base a nightmare of pain and suffering and despair until Jeff Baker showed up. Team chemistry had zilch to do with this team reguarly going out there with 3-5 offensive dead spots in the lineup.

I did the same thing in my last post, but we both completely left out the bullpen, which was a joke right out of the gates last year. Yeah, it's Bradleys' fault the bullpen imploded daily.

The bullpen was actually very average. Ideally, yes, you'd want it to be better, but it was nowhere near the disaster it seemed to be. It was simply exposed more often than you'd like with the ineffectual Cubs' offense failing time and time again to score runs when it was critical, leaving the bullpen to hold games longer than you'd like too often.

Pitching ultimately was not the Cubs' problem last year, either with the starters or even the bullpen despite things like Gregg's flameout. The crappy end result of 2009 rests almost entirely with the offense underperforming.

Texas wouldn't take Milton back due to his issues and thats one place where he didn't actually run himself out of town. I not defending this deal at all. It's terrible. To think at this point that MILTON isn't Insane makes you a . The man is a nut case, he thinks everyone is out to get him, everyone is hates him , everyone hates black people, blah blah Milton is a really really sad person.

i never denied that bradley is a headcase. i'm saying that pretending like the mariners got a bad deal because of some make-believe effect he has on teammates is [expletive].

p.s. how do you know texas wouldnt take bradley back?
