We probably traded him to Oakland for Aaron Miles

At least we'd save millions of dollars.

This is like waiting for test results back from your doctor.

How far has Castillo's defense regressed?

I know it's not the be-all end-all of stats, but fansgraphs had him at 7.0 and 10.5(UZR/150) in 2004-5. Last year he was at -12.0 and -9.3 in 2008.

For comparison, Fontenot was at 18.1 in 2008 and 5.5 last year. So yeah, Castillo seems to have gone in the crapper defensively. To be fair though, hasn't he been dinged up quite a bit the last couple of years? He played 142 games last year, but only 87 in 2008. Could have something to do with it, but not sure.

I wonder if Delmon Youngs a possibility. The Twins would indeed be a surprise.

He'd be Milton Bradley without the plate discipline. No.

You mean offensively or all around, including attitude, because I'm pretty sure Delmon Young isn't the menace he was made out to be when he was in the Tampa farm system anymore. I hate to put so much stock in a guy we haven't been able to see any results from yet, but I wonder if Jaramillo could help Delmon out with his offensive disappointments

Delmon Young is only 24 through next September and had a stronger 2nd half. Would he be a downgrade from Milton Bradley? Certainly. I'd still rather have his upside on the Cubs over Carlos Silva.

Is that Carrie Muskat Tweet real? Has it been shot down yet?

???

Do you not understand what I asked?

Muskat's latest tweet:

Another AL team is in mix for #cubs Milton Bradley but it's not Mariners or Angels. There could be announcement Wednesday

Why wouldn't it be real?

It seems like everything involving Bradley lately has been shot down. I don't know what to trust. Just wanted to know if any of you guys heard anything more.

I don't think the latest general report of a "surprise AL team" has been shut down by anyone.

I'm just speculating here, but could it be the Yankees?

They just got a CF in Granderson. This would leave Melky as a corner OF, but they may feel that his production there is not enough. Could they be thinking of moving him for Bradley? The Cubs get a CF and the Yankees get a corner OF to replace Damon.

This is obviously unlikely, but could it would be surprise.

Milton Bradley...on the Yankees...that's a match made in heaven. How long before the fans would call for his head?

The way I look at it the mystery team has to be Tigers, Redsox or Yankees. Sure it could possibly be the Indians, but I can see them going down that road again. Since they were the first team to dump Bradley for being an A-hole. Because we know it's not the Angels, Mariners, Rays(at least not in this rumored deal), Rangers and the Blue Jays reportly want nothing to do with Bradley(Overbay/Bradley contracts don't even out either). Not to mention the Royals GM said on the radio today that they don't have interest in Bradley at this time. Then we have teams like the Twins/Orioles who don't have the bad contracts to move for Bradley or spots in the outfield or DH for him either. Also there's just about no way that the White Sox would go after Bradley after the issues he had with the Chicago media and fans. I guess the A's are always a possiblity, but they don't really have a bad contract to offer back. Unless you count Eric Chavez, and I doubt the Cubs or any other teams have much interest in him.

So that leaves the Tigers who have Ordonez, Robertson, Guillen Willis and Bondermann as crap contracts that they could offer to the Cubs. But even that becomes tricky when making a deal, because Bondermann, Willis and Robertson are all one year contracts and all owed less then Bradley. So if they aren't gonna eat most of Bradley salary in 2011, too get Burrell I doubt they would do it for any of those guys. Then you have Guillen and Ordonez who are potentially owed more then Bradley. With Guillen making more money then Bradley and having less trade value then Burrell, so that deal doesn't make sense either. Magglio would really only work if he was willing to waive his 15m option for 2011. Which kicks in, If he gets 540 PA or plays in 135 games Which I doubt he would be willing to do and I dunno if he could even do it. Otherwise he's owed 33m over the next two years and the Cubs aren't gonna potentially spend another 10m to add Ordonez.

Then we have the Redsox who could possibly be looking to replace Jason Bay cheaply. Plus rumors are they are looking to dump Mike Lowell. So a Lowell for Bradley deal could work, with the Cubs shipping Lowell to another team. Lowell makes 12m next season, so maybe the Cubs will send 5-6m for 2011. Then the Redsox could put Bradley in LF with Hermida as insurance incase he gets hurt. Now I dunno if Boston is looking to do anything like that(might want bigger name then Bradley in LF), but something like that might work.

Last idea I have is the Yankees, who could be looking to replace Matsui/Damon in LF and DH. Maybe they will send something like Damaso Marte(owed 8m over next two years) for Bradley with the Cubs sending 7m or so for 2011. Or they could do a Bradley for Swisher deal, if they are down on him like reports have stated. With the Cubs sending the Yankees 5m or so to even out the money. But again these are all just ideas, and me trying to make sense of this mystery team angle.

INDIANAPOLIS _ One of the more amusing sights on this late night was watching an impromptu meeting among Cubs president Crane Kenney, GM Jim Hendry and assistant GM Randy Bush. They held it in the vestibule between the lobby doors of the Marriott.

Every time a door would open, the wind would rush in. The only one whose hair wasn't moving was Crane's. Crane was doing a lot of gesticulating and Jim and Randy were doing a lot of listening. Care to fill in your own dialogue?

Hey, don't you guys have a nice suite where you can conduct this business? No doubt the conversation was about you-know-who, whom the Cubs have to trade sooner rather than later.

Nothing happened tonight, as we were told would be the case by a couple of Cubs people.

We'll see about the morning.

Have there been any rumors about Baltimore? It wouldn't surprise me to see a crap team get Bradley, since whoever gets him is going to end up getting a pretty good deal. The off the field stuff probably wouldn't be a big deal to a team like that. They're going to suck anyways, so who cares if he's a "distraction" or whatever nonsense mose of these GMs are afraid of. Also, nobody goes to Orioles games, which seems like a perfect fit for Milton. Nobody is going to hound him like he was in Chicago because nobody really cares.

Seems like it would be a good idea for a crap team to jump on Bradley knowing they're going to get him for dirt cheap, then hope he has a good year and flip him at the deadline or next offseason.

Baltimore actually has the pieces to be an extremely good team for a long long time. Maybe not next year, but definitely for years to come... Weiters, Markakis, Jones, Matusz, Arrieta, Tillman, just to name their young players and up-and-comers. Baltimore might not be a bad place for good players to want to settle down for the next 5 years or so if they're interested in winning

Cubs Rumors: Bradley, Cameron, Putz

By Luke Adams [December 9 at 2:02am CST]

Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times passes on the latest updates he has heard regarding a potential Milton Bradley trade. His source indicates that neither Texas or Tampa Bay is the destination for Bradley in this rumored scenario, and that the Cubs are "ready to pull the trigger" as soon as the other team is. Here are Wittenmyer's other Cubs rumors:

* A Cubs source denies that the team has any interest in Melky Cabrera.

* Mike Cameron is at or near the top of the club's center field wish list.

* The Cubs are interested in J.J. Putz, and were among the teams that watched the righty throw this winter.

* Though Chicago was disappointed to miss out on Curtis Granderson, a club source insists that the Bradley discussions didn't hinder the Cubs' ability to pursue Granderson.

* There is no truth to any Bradley-Carlos Silva trade rumors, according to a Seattle source.

* If the Cubs can eventually move Bradley, they could be on the market for a mid-level starter.

If we could get money coming back to us in a trade for Carlos Guillen, he could be a decent (but expensive) pinch hitter. He's owed $13 million in both 2010 and 2011, so maybe the Tigers can send $2-$4 million in 2010. He's 34 years old switch hitter with a career line of .287/.358/.446/.804 and hits LHP and RHP equally.

On the day that a Bradley deal to a surprise team is supposedly likely, lets recap all of the rumors and propoals that have swirled round:

To Atlanta for Lowe or Vazquez: not so much a rumor as one writers proposal.

To the White Sox for Scott Linebrink: just a proposal from a writer, thank GOD

Toronto for Vernon Wells just so Jim Hendry can say he is the proud possessor of 2 of the worst contracts in baseball history

3. way w/ Blue Jays and Mets with MB going to Toronto, Overbay to the Mets and Castillo to Cubs

same thing with Tampa, only substitute Burrell for Overbay

To Mets for Oliver Perez(early proposal)

to Tampa straight up for Burrell and figure out what to do with Burrell later

To Texas, possibly for Kevin MIllwood

to KC, possibly for Gil Meche

to Seattle for Carlos Silva

to the Angels for Sarge Jr.(writer proposal, never really a rumor)

to the Giants for Aaron Rowand(I think it was just a proposal, never an actual rumor)

to the Padres for unknown
