Milton Bradley-OF-Cubs Dec. 9 - 11:42 am et

Carrie Muskat of MLB.com believes there is no "mystery team" for Milton Bradley and the Rays remain the most likely trade partner.

A few reports surfaced during Tuesday's Winter Meetings action claiming that a "mystery AL team" was nearing a trade for the disgruntled outfielder. Now we're back to square one, and time is ticking for the Cubs. They arrived in Indianapolis with a goal to deal Bradley and have pushed their offseason game plan aside in order to focus on getting a trade completed.

guh...

what? we've known that all along. they don't really know what they're going to have to work with and what they might need until they work this mess out

Why not, i'd trade Amaris, Cashner and Jay for Cabrera any day of the week. I dont have confidence at all that Aramis can stay healthy for a full season and plus he can opt out after next yr.

Seriously? You have got to be kidding. You propose trading Ramirez, Bradley, Cashner, and Jackson for Miguel Cabrera and you don't understand why that's a horrible deal?

As for Cashner and Jay Jackson, I'm still not convinced Cashner is as valuable as Castro or Vitters. I get the feeling that Cashner is a Samardizja type of pitcher.

You probably get that feeling without ever seeing him pitch.

Actually smartass, i saw him pitch in the fall league.

I've never seen him pitch and I can say pretty definitively there's not much to support your assertion.

Just that gut feeling. I had the same feeling when everyone was hyping samardijza, i felt he wasn't that good of a prospect and a reliever at best which i still feel. I felt that way about Hughes, Kennedy, Bucholz, etc. I think if you watch baseball, normally you can see someone and just know they'll be something good. Its just my own opinion, not saying its right.

In the sense that Samardzija will probably never be more than a reliever, there's some support for the comparision.

Pretty much what i feel, i dont see how the guy who said he never saw him pitch says that Cashner will be something and nothing supports my comparison when in fact, analysts like Keith Law have said they feel Cashner will ultimately be a power reliever. I do feel Castro will be a star though, its just the way he carries himself and the way he swings the bat. The way he hits reminds me more of Manny Ramirez, of course not with that much power but with that fluid of a swing.

Heh, "a reliever" was not the first thing that came to my mind when you compared Cashner to a terrible pitcher; being terrible was. Me not having seen him pitch definitely has nothing to do with that.

ummm yes it does because how do you know that Cashner isn't a terrible pitcher. How do you know he's a good pitcher by just looking at the numbers. Its not like samardijza didnt post decent numbers. Cashner's numbers are eye poppin.

Hey you answered your own question! That's how I know he isn't terrible.

All this talk about not seeing Cashner pitch and determining whether he's good or not reminded me that I had posted a video of one of Cashner's games from when he played against the BayBears in the minor league forums, but it probably got buried and ignored. If anyone wants to see a complete, random, Andrew Cashner pitching performance from 7.29.09, here you go:

http://rapidshare.com/files/262604644/Cash7-29-09.rar

His line that game: 5.0IP 1R 0ER 3H 4K 4BB

You only get the center field camera though, but this contains each and every one of his pitches from the game... I think it may even include his batting performances as well

Before you applaud yourself too hard, there was never a time when everyone was hyping Samardzija.

And your ability to judge a player based on how he carries himself is dubious at best.

Why because you say so or because this board is the end all of all Chicago Cubs Baseball. Give me a break, its called in an opinion which is what i've been saying all along. Its my opinion not yours.

Why? Because it's a stupid meaningless phrase.

And there is no opinion involved in the Samardzija question, there was never a time when everybody was hyping him, and from what I've noticed at least half the opinion on him has always been negative.

it's pretty funny that you assume you were right about these guys already

i always knew that ian kennedy guy was a buster. i mean, what 23 year old gets lit up in the al east? only a buster

I think it's too early to assume Cashner will end up as a relief pitcher. He's done well in the minors as a starter and he obviously has the stuff to be effective.

I know...you guys remember that Roy Halladay loser? He had a 10.64 ERA in 19 games for the Jays when he was 23 years old. I think that guy is a construction worker now. From first round pick and highly touted prospect to complete bust. Maybe if he carried himself better.
