the question is how can Iowa plan an SEC team in a bowl game? What has to shake out for that to occur.

after throttling south carolina last year iowa's white guys are probably looking for more of a challenge.

oh man, oregon would stroke iowa. that would be fun.

Oregon would rip them to pieces. I'd like to see that matchup.

Eh, Purdue gave Oregon a game earlier in the season. Just sayin.

Why, you want to watch us beat down your conference again? :D

First of all, who is this "us" you referred to? Do you play for Iowa? If not, you can drop the "us".

Second of all, Iowa did not beat the SEC in their Bowl Game last season. They did not play the SEC. They beat South Carolina.

you'd think iowa fans would be happy with a 9-0 record, some chance at the title game and a very likely conference championship and rose bowl berth in 19 years, and wouldn't really care about whether their team is respected.

this is ridiculous.

? So earlier Southern Cal was in the SEC and now South Carolina isnt?

Just for clarification the Big Ten have played about even against the SEC in bowl games recently.

Edit...ok I reread you post and see what you did there, I guess I should drink coffee before I respond.

I think Ohio State would go to the capital one bowl over Wisconsin. I see them losing to Penn State and beating Iowa with Iowa getting the Rose Bowl, Penn State getting the other BCS and Ohio State going to the capital one with Wiscy in the outback.

i had phio st losing to both penn st and iowa. i decided to stop picking against iowa after the wisconsin game, so i'm picking them to win out. but, i'm also picking texas and either bama or florida to win out, so that would put those teams in the "championship game" and iowa in the rose.

i think the bcs shakes out with:

2 sec teams (this is basically a lock)

1 big east team (this is a lock)

1 acc team (also a lock)

1 big xii team (only way this gets messed up is if texas wins out during the regular season but loses to a big xii north team in the conference title game; texas could get selected at large)

1 pac 10 team (kind of a shame that the best conference gets only 1 bcs bid)

boise st

tcu

2 big ten teams (for this to happen, i think penn st or ohio st probably have to win out)

-if texas loses in the big xii title game then it's either them or one of the big ten runners-up who gets left out.

-if psu and osu each lose at least once more then i think there's a pretty good chance that the big ten only gets one bcs bid and a team like usc could still go.

I think you're pretty much spot-on here. I do have to wonder, however, if we're sure a 10-2 top-10 USC team gets left out of the BCS (which I do think they'll finish that way). I understand there is likely to be two undefeated non-BCS squads (Boise State, TCU) and potentially two one-loss Big Ten teams (Iowa, Penn State). Still, I'd be a little surprised to see that USC team playing in the Holiday Bowl.

So do you plan on calling out everyone on the board every time they use "us" or "we" to refer to the Cubs or any other team? Please.

Your second sentence is just stupid. You know what he and everyone else meant.

I know they run the option so the pass can catch teams off guard but Georgia Tech's QB completed six passes for 193 yards today. That's 193 yards per completion.

I'm pretty sure your math is off by a bit there. ;)

But it's still impressive.

My early predictions of BCS games would be:

NC - Texas vs. Alabama

Rose - Iowa vs. Oregon

Orange - Pittsburgh vs. Ga. Tech (I think Cincy blows it against WVU and/or Pitt)

Fiesta - Florida vs. TCU

Sugar - Boise St. vs. Penn State

Capitol One - LSU vs. Ohio State

Florida and TCU would be very interesting. TCU can put up points, and also have a great and very fast defense. Gary Patterson is probably going to be one of the most sought after coaches for the next couple of seasons. I want to see him stick with TCU though.

I think Texas matches up very well against Alabama, but it would be a great game. 1st one to 20 probably wins.

took a couple warm-ups, but Crist has a cannon. Looking forward to many Crist to Goodman TDs in the next 2-3 years.

Oh, and ND is playing WSU in Texas b/c Kevin White (last AD) entered into a contract with NBC that gave them the right to broadcast 8 games, including 1 neutral site game, for the next several years.

And he apparently did it without bothering to do his homework about the 'conference footprint' rule, meaning that we can't play off-site games in other conference's territories and have NBC broadcast them. I think they wanted a Texas team in SA but they're all Big 12 teams and White's a dumbass, so now all these off-site games are going to be against teams from nowhere near the area (except next year's Yankee Stadium game with Army).

Golden Tate might be every bit the Heisman contender Jimmy is. That Hail Mary catch to end the first half was otherworldly.

And Iowa needed to block two consecutive kicks against UNI. Just sayin.

(Not really, actually - it's clear both teams are better than they were earlier in the season.)

Jimmy's under the boards. Jimmy's in the open. Jimmy makes the shot.

you honestly don't see why Iowa fans would care about the respect their team is given? They have one really challenging game standing between them and an undefeated season, but a lack of respect is likely going to cost them a chance to play for a national title. ETA: even if they beat OSU convincingly, they probably won't jump Texas or the SEC champ.

When's the last time an 8-0 Big Ten team was behind an undefeated MAC team in the polls? Or behind both an undefeated MAC and undefeated MWC team in the coaches poll?

If Oregon would win so easily, why would you want to see that matchup?

So we can finally get the verdict if Iowa is really good or just lucky.

FWIW, I do think they're a top 10 team right now but there's not a whole lot of quality out there this year.

Here's the verdict: it's really stupid to think Iowa isn't good. If you don't think they're in the same league as Alabama, okay. But they're good, there's your answer.

That's why I said 'really good.' I realize that they're a good football team.
