The Sagarin predictor has Iowa at #12.

The rating he's forced to use in the BCS has them at #1.

The predictor is more accurate, btw.

It had OSU #12 going into the National Championship in '02. It had Miami #1.

OSU finished #8.

call me crazy, but i think usc's pending three td loss to oregon is more impressive than iowa's 18 point win against indiana. i'd go ahead and say usc should jump iowa in the rankings.

Oregon would kill Iowa.

Oregon and Texas are the two teams who would match up terrible with Iowa. I could see Iowa playing with and even beating Florida or Alabama but I don't like a match up with Oregon or Texas.

Stanzi was bad for 3 quarters today but the 2 deep ball picks to DJK were killed by the wind. He probably should have either not thrown that far into the wind or adjusted, but that was the main culprit. For all his criticisms he's been very good with the deep ball today.

Our defense is legit and would keep us in any game with anybody. In the bowl game when we have Robinson and Dace back, I'd like to think our offense can at least give us a chance.

Both those picks were right in front of me (I was in the second row and the picks were literally right there) and this is pretty much true. DJK was fairly open and the ball just hung up there.

So when is the last time USC got beat like this? Heck, when is the last time they lost by more than a touchdown.

They've been down big to Oregon State each of the last two times they were in Corvallis but made strong comebacks in both games.

the predictor was probably right; miami gained a lot more yards that game but lost because they turned the ball over 5 times. they were a better team than ohio st but picked a bad night to not hang onto the ball.

The last time they lost by more than a TD was Carroll's first year in 2001 (27-16 vs ND). Losing by 3 TD's hasn't happened since sometime in the 90's. Oregon this year is exhibit A as to why you don't schedule Boise in Boise.

The usual Big Ten sucks, Iowa sucks is the same so not much point in arguing it. But you better hold the Big 12 against Texas and wonder why Florida/Alabama haven't been that impressive against bad SEC teams in a year where the SEC isn't good outside of the top two.

I remember 2003 when Iowa was going to get outclassed by Florida and their athletes in a bowl game. They stomped Florida.

I remember 2004 when Iowa lucked out a bunch of close wins and was going to get stomped by LSU in the Cap One Bowl. They beat LSU.

I remember 2005 when Iowa didn't belong in the Outback Bowl and lost by one score thanks in part to a terrible call that gave Chris Spielman a heart attack.

Then in '06 Iowa was going to get destroyed by Texas and Colt in a bowl game. Lost by one score.

Then in '08 when the rest of the Big Ten was getting beat, Iowa destroyed a team from the almighty superior SEC in the Outback Bowl.

You can say you don't believe Iowa is a top 2-3 team. But they're 9-0. Whatever bowl game they're in, they will keep it close because of their defense and their coaching.

And if you said last year Iowa had no business at the top and would get destroyed, I might have agreed with you. But in case you haven't noticed, no one is really very good this year. Oregon may be the best team in the country right now but hosed themselves in week 1.

What's funny is I think last years team might have been better than this one. They were just more unlucky.

Oh I know and I love Sagarin. Just a reference point for the predictor in a BCS championship game when it appeared to be a big margin.

In '02 I believed all year (and still kind of believe) that Iowa was a superior team to OSU. OSU kept scumming out close wins and got a lot of breaks along the way. Iowa isn't as talented as that team (then again no one is as talented as that Miami team) but there are a lot of similarities.

Unreal play in Minnesota/MSU game.

This year's defense is better in my opinion.

Last year's o-line and running game were better. WR/TE are better this year. QB is just more uneven. Special teams are better this year.

I think what's most shocking to me is that USC hasn't made any adjustments to stop letting Oregon rip off 10+ yards every play. I knew our offense wasn't going to keep up with the Ducks pace but I thought they'd at least slow them down a bit.

yeah, did usc lose a lot to the nfl last year? i expected their offense to dip this year with sanchez leaving, but have been really surprised at how poorly their defense has played this year. it hasn't just been tonight either; notre dame moved the ball well and so did oregon st.

I think Raisin said they lost eight on the defensive side including all three linebackers.

Cushing, Maualuga, Matthews, and Moala were all drafted in the first two rounds. 8 players on defense drafted overall. I was sort of lulled into thinking the defense wasn't gonna miss too much of beat because they had no problems until Notre Dame in the 4th quarter. Even then, I thought a pro style passing attack was what's gonna hurt them not the spread option game. Obviously, I was wrong on that. This is pretty humbling though.

Talent wise, there's no way USC's D should allow Oregon 600+ yards of offense when the other D's on Oregon's schedule have performed better. There's been huge schematic issues tonight.

my vote in the mumme poll this week:

top 5

florida

texas

alabama

tcu

cincinnati

the rest

iowa

boise st

oregon

georgia tech

penn st

lsu

usc

top 11 were pretty easy... thought about houston, ohio st and pitt for #12 but went with usc. i think oregon is better than most of the teams ahead of them - probably not as good as the top 3 but it's close - but they did lose in week 1 and that counts, so i won't put them ahead of any of the undefeated teams since those teams all have solid wins.

Dont you know? Any quarterback with a decent arm could have made that throw.

or at least EJ says so - must be true.

Techinically they lost 4 linebackers to the draft - Cushing, Maualuga, Matthews, and Moala.
