I have a hard time buying into this at all, first of all the off season has not begun meaning nobody has a clue which options are picked up and who will be available. Second of all it is Paul Sullivan, and third of all IF Hendry gets to keep his job, he is going to make a better move than Mike Cameron. Not to say Cameron would be a terrible move IF the Cubs can upgrade significantly in one of the middle infield positions. If I hear this same rumbling after the world series then I will read into it more.

I really hope people don't lose any sleep over Paul Sullivan's speculation. Relax people.

How can people relax when there's a chance to criticize Hendry (even though it's only speculation from Paul Sullivan of all people).

You know who is really good at baseball? Mike Cameron. He's been good for an .800 OPS and plus defense in CF for 5 of the last 6 years. Obviously you don't want to do anything stupid like give him Ted Lilly's deal, but it's far from bad news that Hendry would be interested.

Yeah, I don't get the negativity here. The only negative here is his age. Some are suggesting Mike Cameron hasn't been very good recently, and that's just not true. Comments like "he's out of his prime if he ever had one" are absurd. Cameron is a useful baseball player.

Mike Cameron is criminally undervalued. The problem is that all of his value comes from things that the casual baseball fan can't appreciate. He takes a ton of walks and hits for a bunch of doubles while playing an exceptional defensive center field, but without the flashy catches you'd see from a Jim Edmonds.

I'll admit to jumping the gun on Cameron mainly because of his age, so I checked out his advanced stats from last year and he's actually quite productive. His WARP3 last year was 7.3 and his VORP of 25.8 was 8th among all center fielders last year.

Not a big fan of Cameron offensively to be honest, but I do like him defensively. I think people would rather sign a big marquis bat. We've struck out the last 3 offseasons looking for that dominant middle of the order OF (Soriano, Fukudome, Bradley). With Lee and Ramirez getting older they need something that would resemble a middle of the order guy. I realize not too many of the premier hitters go on the market, but I'm looking for something a little better offensively than Mike Cameron.

Take a look at the last two columns. Dollars is how much money he was worth. Salary is self explanatory.

What about his EqA, BABIP, LD%, and RC?

Something about this post seems sarcastic...

So if I'm reading that right, he's been worth more than he's been paid every year but 2005?

No way we should pay him the $10 mil. that he is making this year, but if we could get him on a 1 year del for $6-7 mil. or a 2 year deal for $13ish I wouldn't be opposed to the idea.

Cameron doesn't excite me, but I don't hate it and I don't think the solution to the outfield problem is going to be exciting anyway. At least it's 100x better than the Bradley for Vernon Wells speculation I've been seeing.
