I'd say this was the right call. At some point you just have to cut your losses, and this situation was clearly just going to get worse next year.

Bradley will outplay whoever the Cubs stick in RF next year.

Good thing Bradley produced THIS YEAR for us.

Oh my God, I really think you do this just to get a rise out of people yet you continue to ignore the facts about Bradley's productivity this year.

what the hell are you talking about? You folks keep bringing up his "productivity" as if it is something to write home about.

9.1 VORP, 3.2 WARP3, .775 OPS

That's hardly irreplaceable. I don't know who is out there we can get or who we can promote, but those are hardly great numbers.

Bradley is going to be 32 at the start of next season. It's not at all a lock that he'll be any better in 2010 than he was this year.

You don't know that.

Yeah he does.

Who's replacing Bradley in RF next year? I'm eager to hear your response.

Why don't you wait until we see who actually will replace him next year before you make any proclamations as to who will have a better season. Speculation at this point is like pissing in the wind.

Or you can look at the realistic in-house and free agent RF options for next year and see that I'm right

Maybe we get someone else to play CF and Fukudome moves back to RF. He can most certainly outproduce Milton next season. You being a hardheaded ass about the situation doesn't make you right.

they could be worse for all you or I know. More likely he'd suffer some season ending injury in the first week.

What the hell am I talking about? The Bradley detractors on here are making it seem like he's one of the worst RF's to ever grace a Cubs uniform and that it's his fault we're in the position we're at right now this year. He hasn't been great, but he's been far from bad this season. There are plenty of other worthwhile scapegoat targets besides Bradley.

That's not something the emotional people are concerned about. They hated Bradley, and they'll cross the bridge of who plays RF later. I've yet to see one reasonable suggestion from them about how to fix the situation.

Honest question-

Is it reasonable to expect Milton to play right field again next season and this whole situation to resolve itself? I don't see how that happens. The fans don't like him, the players don't like him, the media (whether we like ir or not) is only going to get harder on him. This situation will only get worse.

The real solution to this? Go back 9 months and consider that it might not be smart to give a guy like this a big 3 year deal.

ARam says if he didnt want to talk to the media then he shouldnt have talked to them....Umm Aramis, he tried that, and our [expletive] manager and worthless GM got on his ass for not talking to them, and pushed him towards talking to them.

I'm going to go out on a limb here, but I am willing to guess that Aramis probably has a keener insight into Milton Bradley's behavior and relationship with the media than you do.

Im not even sure what you are even trying to say in this post. Did I say anthing untrue?

So a man marrys a woman whose number he got from a bathroom wall. She loves him and promises to change after going out to one dinner. He thinks, well she promises to change and makes a great roast beef. She is also pretty and good in the sack.

So after they get married the mans friend keeps reminding the man that his wife is a tramp. So when the roast beef gets burnt they really remind him that she is a tramp. Even though she was still pretty and good in the sack there was much tension rising. The man then lost his job and made some bad investments. His wife burnt the roast beef again. The friends and family of the man kept pointing out to the man that his problems revolve around his wife being a tramp. So before long he starts to become untrusting of his wife. His wife after burning the roast beef one more time reverts back into being a tramp....which eventually leads to divorce.

So who is to blame for the divorce? The Man, the Wife, the friends or that the rest of his life fell apart? I think there is plenty for everyone.

You do realize Bradley is on borrowed time as far as another injury goes.

He has never put together a full season except when he was DH'ing. My guess is he won't be even be in the NL next year.

Look I guess you could call me a Bradley detractor, but I'm not saying he "sucks" or anything like that. He's just nowhere near where he was supposed to be offensively and add onto the fact that he's obviously a clubhouse cancer (as witnessed by a bunch of his teammates coming out against him today) and I'm all for cutting him loose.

And I agree there are plenty of other scapegoats. I'm not trying to scapegoat the guy, I just don't think his productivity is something that is irreplaceable.

What's laughable is that people seem to view Bradley as if he were Barry Bonds.

He's been league average at the plate while playing below average defense - practically irreplacebale!

Agree 100%. He's basically an overpaid, injury-prone, [expletive] version of Scott Hatteberg.

The fact that our RF next year will be worse than Bradley says a hell of a lot more about the Cubs than it does about Milton.

What are you not getting here? Do you need it spelled out for you? He's a mediocre player with a crap attitude and his teammates have had enough of him.

That better?

Yep because that is exactly what happened. Bradley married the Cubs but burnt the roast beef multiple times.

i can see trading him, but i think they could have DL'ed him with knee inflammation or tried to work with him to shut the hell up the rest of the year, and then try to accommodate him by dealing him to a handful of teams he wants to play for. as it is now they've basically ended up in a situation where they have to eat most of his contract next year (and i think the year after - i don't see any reason why they could get out from under 2011) and get nothing in return, there are no good in-house options and with the $10M committed to bradley the next two years, it's going to be really hard to get acceptable production from RF without giving up some good players from the farm.

i dunno, just seems like other teams do a lot better job of damage control than the cubs do. i suppose it doesn't matter much because, barring some miraculous improvements, the cubs are just going to be mediocre and boring in 2010.

this thread would be a really good one to focus on if anyone here decided to clear the riff-raff out of nsbb and make this place awesome.

But he's already past his peak ages. Given how brittle his physical makeup is, he could just continue to decline from here on out. That wouldn't be all that shocking.
