Hopefully Tennessee will win this one fairly easily and improve to 2-2. If we can play similarly to how we did against Florida, we should have a shot at Auburn (at home) to improve to 3-2 through 5 games. Considering I'll consider 7-8 wins a successful year, I like that start.

We just need to run the same offense the rest of the season that we did against Florida - 75% run and rely on the defense to make a couple plays.

Notre Dame will beat Purdue like 65 to 42 or something insane like that. Neither team can play defense. Which is probably a good thing for our first game without Floyd.

FWIW, someone on an ND board claims to have heard via WLS radio that an NFL type told Floyd he'd be an elite NFL wideout right now. I don't doubt it. I've never seen a more fundamentally sound receiver at ND. He had surgery on his broken collarbone today and won't be back this regular season. He could return for the bowl game, but I'm not sure I even see the point of that - might as well take an extra year of eligibility, unlikely as it is that he'll use it.

BSU/Auburn is going to be really painful.

I wouldn't doubt it, Floyd is great. Potential WR class next year with Bryant, Crabtree, and Floyd is pretty good. Followed by some smaller speed guys like Jordan Shipley and Golden Tate and there are a lot of options suddenly, plus a lot more I am not even thinking of.

Floyd isn't even eligible to enter the draft until 2011 - he's a true sophomore. Makes his ridiculousness all the more impressive.

I would be very surprised if Tate came out, but I guess wonders never cease. He reminds me a little of Steve Smith, but I don't think he's on that level. We'll see, though.

You don't see the point in having one of the best WRs in the country play in a bowl game? Seriously, Andy? Floyd is never going to come back for a 5th year. He's probably not going to stay for 4. So why in the world would you not use him in every single game he's healthy? If Weis doesn't use a healthy Floyd in the bowl game, he should be stoned in the public square. I'm only joking to the extent that stoning is ridiculous b/c someone gun-toting Indiana boy would shoot him dead first.

They can talk to Floyd and see if he will be turning pro despite missing most of the season. If he wants to stay and says there is chance he would stay an extra year then use the redshirt.

As for the last sentence I'm a bit confused. Indiana doesn't have that many guns compared to other states. Southern Indiana is a lot like Kentucky and the South but most of Indiana is pretty progressive and live in decent sized cities.

There is no reason in the world to sit a healthy Floyd is a bowl game rather than play him. He's not going to be back at ND in 2012. He may not be back in 2011, even after missing this entire season. Given that he's been injured in each of his 2 seasons with ND, you think he'd risk playing an extra year of CFB rather than going to the NFL? I can't believe this is actually being discussed.

Oh, I thought he was the same age as Tate.

yeah, arrelious benn is dogmeat.

Is it even a given he'd get an extra year of eligibility? He already played in ~20% of the season before the injury.

You can still redshirt if it's just the first 3 games of the season and nothing more.

I don't think much of him either, but that's a little harsh...

washington, the #24 team in the country, is a touchdown underdog to stanford. that pretty much tells you that they shouldn't be ranked.

I disagree. I think if rankings are going to be posted this early (and I do not think they should), you almost have to rank a team who has only lost a close game to a Top 10 opponent and beaten another.

Doesn't matter, though. None of these rankings do.

So on another board I'm on, somebody is arguing east coast bias keeping in the polling keeping Oregon and UCLA down. Okay...I can feel him on Mizzou and Pitt having not really played anybody, but...how do you diss georgia and iowa for playing nobody when you're endorsing UCLA, whose best win is against a 1-2 Tennessee team, and their schedule's w/l record is 3-9? I'd feel him on Oregon if they hadn't tried their damnedst to lose to a pretty bad Purdue team...

3/12 is ok, but 3/11 is not.

What about Matt Groethe? This one really makes my stomach sick. He's meant so much to the program, to go out before the programs biggest instate game sucks.

Warp, you were asking earlier about Ryan Mallet - well, here's a decent read about him for you:

A star in the making

If you got a chance to watch the Arkansas-Georgia game, you may have witnessed the coming out party for Razorback QB Ryan Mallett. Mallett is a tall, strong-armed passer who completed 21 of 39 passes for 408 yards and five touchdowns vs. the Bulldogs secondary Saturday night. He possesses an impressive physical skill set and seems to be coming into his own under head coach Bobby Petrino. Mallett is only a sophomore, but he has an ability to make a Jevan Snead-type impact in the SEC this season.

There are some other interesting tidbits in there from Wes Bunting, including that he thinks Jake Locker is the best QB prospect in college football, that Jahvid Best is the best collegiate running back and a few big players analyzed.

barely over 50% completion? Were there a lot of drops in there?

I think there might have been. Warp can tell you more accurately than I can, though.

The biggest thing Mallett showed Saturday was great arm strength and accuracy - especially deep. The consistency (to improve the completion percentage) needs to improve, though.

Mallett was 17 of 23 at one point. The last quarter and a half, something was going on that I couldn't figure out. there were a couple of drops, but not enough to make for 5 of the last 16. I wish I had an explanation for that.
