Ryan Mallet is really good apparently.

Bastard. He apparently learned how to throw accurately during his year off after transferring from Michigan. He would just rifle it as hard as he could every pass when he played for UM.

Wasn't he a true freshman? He was the #2 QB coming out of HS behind Clausen that year. He's maybe the #1 reason I thought hiring Rich Rod was really weird for UM (this was before I knew all the baggage he'd bring with him). Seems if you have 1 really, really highly rated QB on the roster but nothing decent behind him, you'd try not to scare him off. Then again, I have to wonder if Pryor is re-thinking his decision.

So I didn't realize ND's defense was just reverting to "completely crappy" after the Nevada game. Jon Tenuta should be fired immediately for giving up 450+ to Michigan freaking State.

That was an awesome ending and a "thank-God" win to get the stupid streak off our backs, but with Floyd out, very little chance of getting to a BCS game unless ND can gut out wins over all their non-USC opponents until he gets back. Hopefully Jimmy is ok, he was limping around the last 2 1/2 quarters of the game and is getting x-rays on his foot this week.

Golden Tate can stop dropping the ball any time now. Glad he got it together in time to catch the game winning TD.

I would say there was a very little chance of a BCS bowl before the season started.

Their offense has looked extremely impressive. The defense though, not so much.

I'm hesitant to use the H-word (especially because the media has preordained it a two-man race between McCoy and Tebow), but Jimmy Clausen has been absolutely phenomenal this season. Over 900 yards, nine touchdowns, no picks, and 22/31 today marks his worst completion percentage of the year.

only 2 of those 9 were bad throws and one of those 2 was a clear mix-up between him and Tate. With a sprained toe and his #1 WR out, he still hit guys in the hands and numbers all over the field. Moved well in the pocket, avoids pressure. ND is deep at WR, but none of those guys is anywhere near Floyd. Hopefully the young guys or Kamera step up.

BTW - Clausen's been sacked once in 3 games, is that right? Verducci is a heck of an OL coach. The offense, even without Floyd, could score 30+ in every game. The problem is the defense can apparently give up anywhere from 0 to 40. The recruiting losses of Hunter, McCoy, Martin, etc have left glaring holes at DT. They need to keep their claws in Chris Martin and grab Barr too. And I don't care if Sergio Brown is the most athletic man to ever put on a helmet (and he's not) but you have to get him off the field - he overruns every tackle, can't cover anyone, and advertises his blitzes like he works for Budweiser.

Why non ND fans hate ND. Michigan freaking State!! I hate to mention this but the only thing that ND has in their resume from the last 10 yrs that makes them better than MSU is 2 BCS appearances that they would have not received if they were not ND(and MSU beat them one of those years). I should be upset that our terrible defense gave up so much to Notre freaking Dame. You blame the recent bad streak on bad ND coaching without even looking at who MSU had coaching since Sabean left. Here is the truth...Notre Dame is at the same competitive level as MSU and has been for at least 10 years.

and yes, Jimmy Clausen is real good

and claussen did all that against a powerhouse like michigan state. That's what shocked me. I mean, they have at least 24 future NFL players on that defense.

Gameday is going to be in Happy Valley for the Iowa/Penn State game next week.

Would be nice if Iowa snuck into the top 25 but I'm not expecting it. They were 21 and 22 preseason, dropped to like 35 after barely beating UNI. Then won at Iowa State 35-3 and beat Arizona by 10. If they had beaten UNI 35-3 and then barely beat Iowa State they probably wouldn't have dropped.

Michigan State's defense, such as it is, is still better than any defense McCoy or Tebow has faced so far except Tennessee (and Tebow didn't put up very good numbers against them at all), so I don't see your point.

"Michigan freaking State" lost to Central Michigan. That's why I called them that. They don't have a QB (the old adage about if you have 2 QB's...). And regarding 'the streak', I know full well MSU's been coached by idiots in that time. Shockingly, I'm more concerned with posting about my own team and their situation than I am about MSU, though. This gives me something in common with EVERY SINGLE COLLEGE FOOTBALL FAN IN AMERICA. But somehow it makes me the smug ND fan and the reason non-ND fans hate us - because I dare to pay attention to them more than the other 119 teams.

Twice yesterday he was sacked, but yes, the O-line's done a fantastic job. I said when Jimmy was limping around that the line better do a good job blocking because he wasn't going to be able to run, and they did - he took one or two hits but other than that had time.

mccoy and tebow have track records of actually being good at football. they also play at schools that are good at football, which helps in a heisman race.

I don't think any rational person thinks Clausen is the Heisman favorite. I don't think it's rational to say he shouldn't be in the discussion at this point (he's been outstanding and none of the early front runners have been). But many ND fans aren't rational and many people irrationally hate ND and especially its QBs, so there you go.

That's not why non-ND fans hate ND. MSU shouldn't have much respect going into SB this year. They had huge Qs at QB and RB and just lost to a MAC team. MSU is looking at a long year, though they should improve as the QB gets more experience. ND is not the worst team MSU is going to lose to.

I'm thoroughly embarrassed that I completely missed putting the VT/Nebraska game on this week's schedule. This sort of thing will not happen again. :)

Washington is #24? I understand that they beat USC, but USC had a QB that didn't know he was going to be starting until he ran onto the field for the first time and UW essentially had USC's playbook going in. We'll see how they do at Stanford, but I'm a little surprised they moved into the top 25.

Mizzou stays at 26 in the AP and moves up to 21 in the coaches after thrashing mighty Furman. Hopefully they can avoid slipping up at Nevada on Friday night, because there will be plenty of chances to move up the polls after that(Nebraska, @ Oklahoma St., Texas in consecutive weeks).

so holy cross beat harvard by a touchdown, outgained them, it was harvard's first game of the year, holy cross was 2-0, harvard was ranked #22 and holy cross was unranked. fcs coaches poll now has harvard at #25 and holy cross the top team in "also receiving votes." wtf.

I think it's ridiculous too. They went 0-12 last year and start out this season 2-1 and they are ranked?

yeah i'm pretty sure that most of the "also receiving votes" teams are better than washington.

holy crap that guy was either drunk or is a complete idiot.

That doesn't look terrible to me, it's just a different approach. If you beat power conference teams(or in FSU's case, Miami), you get rewarded. It's not universally consistent(like most ballots), but it's not so different than some of the blogpoll ballots that use that approach.
