Harden for Mike Stanton and Logan Morrison

I like the way you think. They also have some fascinating potential "buy low" prospects in guys like Matt Dominguez, Kyle Skipworth, and Sean West.

I got to see all 3 of those guys up close and in person Saturday-Wednesday. Stanton, on Wednesday, hit a home run that landed 3 feet away form my face. That kid is going to be all sorts of ridiculous. He had a really sloppy series though. I think he only had 4 hits in the 5-game set, 2 singles, HR, and a triple... basically struck out half the time. But man is that kid strong.

Logan Morrison on the other hand had a solid series and he looked really good at the dish. Assuming it was Harden that was claimed, and seeing as Morrison isn;t the #3 prospect in all of baseball like Stanton is, I wonder if the Marlins would make that swap. I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Dominguez looked out of his element. He probably needs more work in A ball, but he's got lots of potential... maybe we can get him in there as well because of his struggles?

Either way, if it was the Marlins who claimed Harden, I think we have pretty much been given a golden opportunity to get at least one good prospect from them or, at the very least a few solid once, to help replenish our farm system.

Now let's watch Hendry trade him for Emilio Bonifacio and Hayden Penn

i pretty much agree with all the serious posts in this thread - don't trade harden unless it's a good return because you're probably getting two #1 picks for him; trade heilman for whatever.

what would have to happen for him to not be type A status?

just so we are all clear.. the stanton and morrison was sarcasm... but the interwebz doesnt convey that...

but it looks like the twins claimed harden and honestly ouside of hicks or revere i would rather keep him and offer arbritration. the twins system sucks IMO. and i think we have a lot of toolsy OF like they do... Thoughts?

I don't understand the waiver process. If a player on waivers is claimed but his team can pull him out, what's the purpose of putting him on waivers in the first place? Is it just to see if there's a market for him?

It is the only way that a team can trade a player after July 31.

The twins? That's a bit of a let down. Don't much care for their system. Hicks might be better off as a pitcher.

I say keep Rich and offer arbitration.

The Twins? I'm surprised Harden got through the NL

I thought they went through the other league before their own. I guess I could be wrong on that.

it's the other way around. same league first, then other league.

I understood it, but I gave it serious thought. Harden is a Type A who has been utterly fantastic lately. The Marlins are in the playoff hunt and need a pitcher. Harden would be a great fit, especially in that ballpark. Plus he could net them 2 DP's in the offseason. He might might be worth a Logan Morrison, depending on how much they valued him. Stanton, obviously no way in hell they'd trade him, but Morrison they might give it a thought depending on how desperate they are.

But none of that matters since it seems like it's the Twins who claimed him.

I wonder if they'd trade Liriano for Harden straight up. One high ceiling injury risk pitcher for another?

There are actually two forms of waivers. The first is the most common - revocable waivers. Using this form of waivers, a team can place a player on waivers and, if he's claimed, the original team can pull him back and keep him if they choose. Teams use this form of waivers to gauge what kind of market a player has if they are considering trading him, primarily. It allows a team like the Cubs to see who has interest in a guy like Harden and whether they can work out a deal with the claiming team. Any player traded in the month of August also must have passed through waivers - or have been claimed and traded to that claiming team.

The other kind of waivers are irrevocable waivers. Manny was placed on this by the Red Sox in 2003 (I think). This type of waivers typically mean a team wants to part ways with the player. If a player placed on irrevocable waivers is claimed, he cannot be pulled back. Thus, if Manny had been claimed in 2003, then the team that claimed him would have had him and his contract.

Sometimes it is just as a feeler to see if there's any interest from other teams. Also, if a team really is interested in trading a player, the team may place several other players on waivers too in order to make it harder to figure out who they really want to trade (it makes it harder for another team to claim a player in order to block a trade).
