I'm not optimistic about Gorz at all. I saw him pitch and get lit up in AAA with the Indianapolis Indians earlier this year. He had the velocity but the other team was hitting the crap out of his fastball. I don't see why we are bothering with him but I do hope he kicks butt.

While I'm not going to say he'll be the next [insert name of really good pitcher of choice here], I would rather look at his minor league line of:

 

 

2.48 ERA, 1.184 WHIP, 2.83 K/BB, 8.8K/9, 73 H in 87 IP

 

 

 

then your single game anecdote. So I do have hope he could be successful against the Reds.

Nope, actually hasn't given up any. He was used only as a reliever and gave up 5 ER in 3 appearances, but none in the other 6.

 

His BABIP is around .250...a career low for him but not completely outrageous just a little low.

Yeah, but once again, its only 8.1 IP, so that really doesn't give a complete picture. I'm sure it will climb, but also his ERA is still likely to go down.

 

 

 

 

At most Gorz will be a high 3, low 4 era, 1.2-1.4 whip, 6-8 K/9 type lefty, or basically a little bit below to equal Ted Lilly.

If he was looking that good in AAA, was he really not worthy of a callup to the Pirates? Were they hiding him down there to inflate his trade value? Was their rotation just too good? Did he just now start pitching well?

I think both of them pissed off management. Gorzo's a douchebag so that makes sense, I think Snell was just pissed that the team is awful.
