I'm guessing Baker get's DFA when they bring back Soto.

I doubt that, hes there to platoon with Fontenot at 2nd against leftys. Id guess Shark goes back down, especially if the starters manage to eat some innings the next few game or 2, or they send down Fuld.

Shark (or Stevens) will go down tomorrow when Gorzelanny comes back to Chicago.

Knoxville News-Sentinel[/url]"]Soto is recovering from an oblique injury. The National League Rookie of the Year in 2008 was 1-for-2 with a walk and didn't have a chance to throw out any runners attempting to steal.

"I feel really good," Soto said. "I didn't feel it (muscle) at all doing anything - throwing, blocking, hitting. That's a good sign."

The 26-year-old from San Juan, Puerto Rico, plans to play seven innings tonight and nine innings Wednesday before heading to Denver, where the Cubs start a series against the Colorado Rockies on Friday.

"If there are no problems, I meet the team Thursday," Soto said.

I see no point of rushing him back by Wednesday. It would be only one more start for Hill and Thursday is a day off. Friday is the ideal time for Soto to return.

They'll probably send Hill down. Why would we need 2 catchers?

Hill isn't going anywhere. Catching is the probably the most important defensive position in the game and Soto can't do it every day.

That was a joke... It's crazy that we've gone this long with 1 catcher.

It should be Hoffpauir who goes down. He's struggled mightly in the last couple months and Jake Fox can do everything he can: play 1st, the corner outfield spots (although I wouldn't put him out there in right for a Wrigley day game) and hit against RHP (Fox in 76 ABs against righties is batting .329/.365/.618 with 6 of his 7 HRs)

But I wouldn't hold my breathe on that happening

Why not? Even if hes not ready to catch, Id rather have him in an important pinch hitting situation than Hoffpauir or Baker, so just bring him on up, give Koyie the start Wednesday and then Soto starts Friday.

watching Hill at the plate is painful. i can't wait to see Geo back in the lineup this weekend.

Here's to him having dropped some weight and being in better shape!

I bet Fuld goes back down for Geo. Shark will go down for Gorzelanny.

I'll throw in my prediction of Hoffpauir going down for Geo just because Fuld is the backup CF and that will probably tip the scales in his favor. It might be the best thing for Hoffpauir right now. He's in a absolutely massive slump and from his quotes sounds like he might be pressing because of it. Go get him 2-3 weeks of at-bats at Iowa and see if he can relax and work through it with regular at-bats.

Does Hoff have options? I thought there was talk in the spring that if he didn't make the team they'd risk losing him.

According to TCR's 40 man roster he has 2 (it's usually pretty reliable). That would seem to be consistent with what I remember as well (he first played in the major leagues last year and I don't think he was on the 40 man at all before that).

I forgot about Johnson being injured. If Hoff has options, then you're probably right. It's too bad, cuz Hoff started off so well this year.

I thought I read somewhere that Geo might be in tomorrow night's starting lineup. Did anyone else see that?

Lou was at least hinting at the possibility. I don't remember specifically where I read it, but it was definitely mentioned as a possibility.

everything i've read has indicated he'd join the team Thursday in Denver. he's supposed to be catching 7 innings for Tennessee tonight, unless something has changed.

I think it's this Trib article that started speculation of an earlier return. It's by Paul Sullivan, though, so consider the source.
