  1. I never post, I'm just a simple lurker. But I had to post in the first Cubs World Series thread. Go Cubs!
  2. What was the previous record?
  3. Maybe, just maybe, they were compared because they are current and former Cubs outfielders, and it has nothing to do with race. I'll echo the previous poster - I'm a big Lee fan too, but STFU.
  4. It's unfortunate that it appears we don't have much to spend this offseason. With all of the teams that are looking to cut salary, Hendry could do some of his typical fleecing of the poorer teams looking to cut salary.
  5. It seems like they've been grooming Sandberg to take over as manager when Lou's gone. Lou's contract expires after 2010, right? The plan was probably to have Sandberg take over after that. If Lou is fired after this season (or during it), we'll see if they think he's ready now. I'm guessing they'll consider all applicants, but Sandberg would have the inside track.
  6. That was a joke... It's crazy that we've gone this long with 1 catcher.
  7. Maybe we can DH him and hope nobody notices.
  8. They'll probably send Hill down. Why would we need 2 catchers?
  9. What are the rules on releasing him? He's technically on the DL, so we can't just release him, right? Do we need to activate him (requiring a corresponding move), then we can waive him?
  10. That's exactly right - I've tried to make that argument a couple of times myself. You can't just look at who we got for our prospects, all that does is show that we hyped them well enough to fool another team into trading for them. That may be good GM'ing, but it's not good player development. Hopefully the player development is actually improving (and not just the hype) - even with a high payroll it's very difficult to field a good team every year without a decent farm system.
  11. They have a name for that - mediocrity. If anyone in this division decides to be better than mediocre, the crown is theirs. The Cubs have the roster to win the coveted title of "least mediocre team" in the division, but we're going to need to do better than 3 games over .500. The Cubs need a hot streak that doesn't follow or precede a long losing streak. At least we took 1 from Philly to nip that one in the bud.
