ummm, aren't they pretty much the same guy but French is a bit younger?

Well, Church is left handed, and can actually take a walk every once and a while, and he hasn't completely lost all his power the last two seasons.

Church's OPS was 130 points higher last year (.785 for Church, .653 for Franceour) and is 73 points better this year (.707 for Church, .634 for Franceour).

Career OPS: .732 for Francoeur and .790 for Church.

Church is better.

Didn't realize the difference was so great. Don't really know their stats too well.

This does surprise me a bit because Frenchy is such a hometown favorite. He's really popular among Braves fans. But as they say, business is business.

Why are 2 teams in the same division, both theoretically in contention doing such a trade? Kind of like us sending oh, I dont know Ryan Theriot to the Brewers for JJ Hardy.

The best part is the Mets and Braves playing tonight.

Yeah, a buddy of mine is a big Braves fan who wasn't initially crazy about the deal because he really likes Franceour. Him being a hometown boy really helps, I think.

Franceour is 5 years younger than Church, so he still has time to improve. That must be what Minaya is thinking here.

Yeah, my first thought was how weird it was to see an intra-division trade.

The only thing that lessens the pain of being a Cubs fan is watching the trainwreck of the Mets season. Every thing they do compounds the problems they already have.

Francouer has been on downward spiral for his career the last two years, and despite his youth he has never on based even the league average.

Really really bad trade by the Mets.

Mechanically, Francouer is different than he was early on. His stride has gotten longer and he start his swing earlier as well as elevated his swing and it has hurt against breaking balls. Combine that with an already bad approach and it has hurt him. Even with that bat speed and natural gifts, he hasn't been able to overcome that approach and now regressing mechanics.

I don't know if it's that weird when it's 2 established players of comperable value getting traded for one another. It'd be weird if there were stars trading teams, or a firesale trade from one team to another.

When they play the same position and both teams are in the division race, it's pretty weird. This seems like a "let's make a move just to make a move and try to spark this sinking ship" type of deal
