With free agency beginning in 5 hours we might as well start an offseason thread.

Pistons (thankfully) fired Michael Curry after one year. Doug Collins, Avery Johnson and Sam Mitchell being talked about as replacements.

Carlos Boozer and Okur both opt-in so they'll be with the Jazz again next year. This may let Paul Milsapp walk free and there are reports that OKC may make a huge offer to him. Pistons are also interested.

I think Gordon is going to Detroit shortly after midnight.

One ESPN writer seems to think Gordon is bitter towards the Bulls and will sign with another team if the offers are similar, while another thinks that Gordon wants to stay with the Bulls and the Bulls are willing to offer $11 million while the Pistons are only willing to offer $10 million.

Personally, no matter how good a scorer Gordon is, he's too much of a 1 dimensional player to pay out a contract of $10 mill plus. Let Detroit overpay his arse. Detroit will find out how bad a backcourt of Stuckey and Gordon truly will be at least on the defensive side of the ball.

gordon and villanueva to detroit. A lot of SFs on that team, though I guess Daye can spend all season in the nbdl/a steakhouse.

Thunder are in early talks with Gortat and Millsap

Where are you seeing Gordon to Detroit is done? All I keep seeing is hes visiting there today and could get offer, but nothing about him signing.

Ah ok yea I think he will see what Det offers then go back to Chi and see if they will match or beat it. I still think hes back in Chicago.

ESPN reporting that the Pistons have reached agreements with Gordon and Villanueva. Ben will get $55M over 5 years, Charlie will get $35M over 5 years.

I'm pretty mixed and would like to hear what you other NBA guys think about the signings. I think it could put us right in the middle of the blob for the foreseeable future. Not good enough to really contend, not bad enough to get lucky in the lottery.

The good news is we're getting younger and I think Villanueva still has a lot of potential he can reach. He's kind of a younger Rasheed with less defense.

Gordon is probably overpaid but not by that much. He's more efficient than he gets credit for and I think his defense is also better than his rep. Especially when Stuckey will be guarding all 2's.

I think they'll look to trade Rip for a big now but don't know what they can fetch. We need a big man somehow.

The Bulls should NOT match Detroit's offer for Gordon. Don't want two crappy long-term deals on the cap. Gordon had his chance to reupped but either ignore or rejected the Bulls offer. So, c-ya, BG.

I think Gortat would make a good stop gap and then a great backup while Yao is out. Hopefully the Rockets can get him. I can also see us convincing Deke to unretire and play him 20 minutes or so a game and go with a small lineup with two of either Scola, Landry or Hayes.

Grizzlies traded Quentin Richardson for Zach Randolph. Interesting trade, basically Darko for Randolph.

I don't get why the Clippers wanted Richardson. How does that help? Randolph is a weirdo and all, but he's still a 20-10 guy, and you got back...Q-Rich? Okay...

Maybe he fits well in their up-tempo system? I'm not sure.

I was happy enough with the Darko for Richardson deal, but Randolph is the best of the three. He'll do well playing alongside Thabeet and Marc Gasol.

it probably has something to do with blake griffin and the fact that z-bo is fat, lazy, expensive and a defensive liability.

Q makes less than $10M next year, Randolph makes $16M. Q expires after next year, Randolph makes over $17M in 2011.

It clears room for Griffin on the court and gives them a chance to be major players in the 2010 class. You might wonder why anyone would go to the Clippers, but Baron, Gordon and Griffin plus the LA market would be fairly attractive.

The Grizzlies have a very interesting team now. There's some good young talent there. Now with a legit 20/10 guy down low they have a chance to be pretty decent.

Real interesting.

Conley

Mayo

Gay

Randolph

Thabeet

with a ton of size on the bench of Gasol, Arthur, Warrick, and Mihm. Their only legit backup on the perimeter though is Sam Young, though. If they can pick up a cheap backup at PG and trade Warrick for a backup 2-3, they should be pretty deep and solid, throughout. Sucks they are in the West.

Well, at least until you realize the 20/10 guy is Zach Randolph.

Son of a bitch, I was getting excited they'd become worse if Ariza did leave (which was dumb, I'm sure the league would have let them dump some other crappy player and late picks for a young all-star).

Yeah, people are really overrating Randolph in here. He's a worthless load.
