Let Havlat walk and make a run at the Sedins. See if you can get them both at $4.5M-$5M (but don't go long-term -- maybe two years). Between the Havlat and Khabibulin money -- 12.75M total -- you get a top center, replace Havlat (more or less) and save a little cash. It would be more complicated, because we're a little over-loaded at LW and would need additional help on the right, but that could be dealt with. I'd probably look to trade Ladd for an equivalent RW. You could also flip Sharp to RW, I suppose.

1. Sharp - Toews - Kane

2. D. Sedin - H. Sedin - Byfuglien

3. Versteeg - Bolland - Brouwer

4. Beach - Pahlsson - Burish

That would be a lot of fun. But I don't see those guys signing short-term and definitely not at that low price tag.

That's one hell of a team. But yeah, the Sedins could get $7.5M each for 5 years. Hawks obviously can't do that. Not many teams can.

I know. It would be a lot of fun to watch, but yeah, it's unrealistic. But what are offseasons for other than unrealistic dreaming?!?

I should point out that I can't imagine that the Sedins will leave Vancouver. That's just crazy-talk by me.

More realistic is targeting Saku Koivu and keeping Havlat.

I think the Canucks are in a good cap situation also. At least I think I read that somewhere in the last week or so. They are supposedly looking to make a run at the Neidermayer bros also.

Koivu would be a killer pickup. Exactly what we need.

Agreed.

I see the Hawks being as aggressive as they can be, considering the cap. They must have made a boatload of money this year, and I think they know that they need to continue to improve and be a perennial contender to fully renew all of the goodwill that had been lost.

Yeah they'll be able to match any offer the Sedins get.

The Niedermayer bros are from BC and according to their agent, they may be willing to take a pay cut to finish their careers here.

Did anyone else see that Comcast report tonight that Havlat might be willing to take a hometown discount to stay with the Hawks, and that they have already started talking and a deal could be reached as soon as next week?

If that's true, it's good news I think. I just hope he doesn't turn into the Havlat before this year.

Lookin at about a 5-7 year deal, easily. Havlat is awesome, I hope he does take a discount to give us some cap room.

CAN'T WAIT FOR BEACH NEXT YEAR!!!

As a Red Wing fan I am not sure I endorse Cyno with a Red Wing logo on his page. I dont mind that he is cheering for us against Pitt, but the logo may be too much.

Seriously.

Actually no offense, I can't believe a die hard Hawks fan would be cheering for the Wings. I'm sure you understand what I'm saying. As an example from another sport, you could have threatened my life and I still would have cheered against the Packers in the 2007 NFC Championship game. There was nothing that would get me to root for the Packers.

I wouldn't endorse it at all, it makes absolutely no sense.

Its akin to a Cubs fan rooting for the Cardinals, the only circumstance I would cheer for the Red Wings is if they were matched against a group of aliens for the fate of Earth - maybe.

Dany Heatley wants out of Ottawa. If I was Ottawa I would be bending over backwards to resolve this. If not, I think the Hawks should consider getting Heatley. Heatley makes 6.5 million for the next 5 years. But he is >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Havlat if you figure in the injury issues. My guess is that Ottawa will take on some salary though to help offset this trade.

Read something in Monday' USA Today apparently, the Wings are going to have only around 4 million in cap space this off season. If that's true I gotta believe one or more of Hossa, Hudler or, I can't remember if the other name FA was Stuart or Samuelsson, is gone. Of course, my arrogant Wings fan mother-in-law thinks they'll all resign for a combined 1 million!

early speculation (or writers' guess) is that would the hawks be willing to part with campbell for heatley, if that is the case then i would have make that trade yesterday. Keith and Biscuit are already the Hawks top blue line pairing, and the Hawks have other interesting D prospects that are coming.

According to the ESPNEWS crawl, the Hawks signed Bolland to a 5-year deal. I don't know how much it was for, but assuming Hendry didn't do the negotiating, I'm liking this move.

Umm...TSN is reporting that the Hawks are close to signing Hossa and Dave Kaplin confirms through his sources. I did a double take when I heard on ESPN1000s latest update.

Weird.

Today's papers suggested they were looking to trade Huet and resign Khabi. I wouldn't mind, especially if Khabi's contract was only 1-2 years.

They talked about getting Havlat to agree to a one year deal. In this economy, I have to wonder if he'd view that as a smart move, and then go to free agency next year. Bring back Havlat, add Hossa, let Khabi walk, and this team is stacked on the ice.

The Chicago Blackhawks have signed star winger Marian Hossa to a 12-year whopper deal. Sources tell ESPN.com the deal is worth an average of $5.2 million a year.

12 years! Holy crap lol. espnchicago was reporting it would likely be a 1 year deal lol only off by 11 years not bad.....

Yeah the score just reported it's done. Not sure if they are using tsn as the source but wow. I'm a big fan of this except 12 years is odd.
