19 boards in 22 minutes last night.

They shouldn't even make preseason NBA scores public. That way people don't start thinking dumb things about the Taj Gibson/James Johnson/Dejuan Blair's of the world.

Although for the record, I wanted Blair at 26 too.

I know it was preseason, but everyone knows rebounding translates from college to the NBA. Doesn't mean much, but it helps illustrate the point a bit.

I agree. I liked Blair for that reason too. I'm just saying, I'd be surprised if he's anything more than Ronaldo Balkman. Nothing to regret missing out on.

Calathes or Ellington

You liked Calathes? Meh.

Blair for me. Ellington would have worked.

And I'd like Calathes at 26.

I didn't actually remember that, was just looking to see if I wanted Calathes before the draft. I also threw Sam Young's name out there back then.

I just don't get the obsession with Dejuan Blair

He's got a chance to be pretty freaking good, that's the obsession.

Well, compared to a Taj Gibson, who doesn't do anything particularly well and isn't expected to amount to much, Blair is a fantastic rebounder, which is a skill that translates very well to the pros.

That he was top 10 talent with knee issues that scared off 80% of the NBA, but as a very late first round pick, it's certainly worth the gamble. The reward is definitely worth taking the risk as you will see this year.

Dejuan Blair is shorter than me.

I don't care if he's shorter than Kiefer Sutherland, he was the best rebounder in the history of college basketball.

That doesn't mean squat in the NBA. I understand why people think San Antonio got the steal of the draft, but if Blair can have anything more then a solid career in the NBA, then colour me surprise. ATP Blair is a backup big, so why the hype?

Taj Gibson will be a fine rebounder in the NBA, especially with good coaching. He averaged 7.8 & 9 in last 2 years @ USC.

The Bulls needed a big body under the basket (Noah, Gray, ?) and Blair doesn't fit that bill. Been there done that before (Elton Brand, Lonny Baxter, Marcus Fizer, Sweets). I just think being big is about more than rebounding. Defense is huge in the playoffs as is banging around down low.

Defensive rebounding was a huge problem for the Bulls last year. Gibson will probably be serviceable in that area (probably more effective on a per minute basis than TT) but Blair has a chance to be a truly dominant rebounder if he can stay healthy. Gibson's strength is shot blocking which wasn't a weakness last year with Thomas and Noah. Although Thomas selling out for every block shot compromised the defensive rebounding and interior D a ton last year. I wish he had a brain.

Haha, oh my.

In my defense, in the recent post, I meant Calathes vs. Blair.

I think Taj will be a decent 8th or 9th man off the bench providing energy and hustle, which isn't the end of the world. Teams still need those. At 26th, you can either take a high risk medium reward player, or you can take a player with a lower ceiling but much lower risk. At least that's my opinion.

Didn't stop Dennis Rodman from doing things that big men do but do it better than people 5-6 inches taller than him. Same goes for Ben Wallace. I'm not saying that Blair is in the same class as them, but you can't dismiss his potential because of his height.

Using the exceptions to prove the rule is not a good tactic.

Paul Millsap? I assume you must mean him since he never had a year as bad as Blair's best in rebounding.

Hell Blair's not even the best rebounder in this class. That would be Griffin.

Blair had a much better rebounding percentage than Griffin. Blair had the highest offensive rebounding % in the history of college basketball.

EDIT: Offensive rebounding percentage, not defensive. He was slightly below Griffin defensively.
