I prefer the occasional elbow and passion over the 10 minutes of chest bumps and butt slaps you usually see before tip off. It's all a big fraternizing circle jerk now.

Of course SSR comes in with the whiny moralizing right on cue.

You prefer that a guy punches somebody in the face while lying on top of him rather than say hi before the game?

It wasn't passion it was a punk "coached" by a slimeball being a douchebag. Bledsoe couldn't even calm himself down enough to stay in the game for 15 seconds. The Kentucky program is an embarrassment to college basketball and has been for most of its existence.

I'd rather be the whiny moralizer rather than root for this embarrassment

You're a Celtics fan.

You already root for this embarrassment. He's called Rajon Rondo. We can throw in KG's belligerent screaming and Paul Pierce faking injuries in for good measure. Now I actually kind of like all that stuff (besides the Pierce thing which is just weak as hell). Games would be boring if everyone were quiet and demure like Ray Allen.

Yeah Calipari and his act are very tired.

See, I think a lot of that stuff has been removed from sports. Mainly for the worse. And now every time someone gets out of line on the court it gets blown up like some egregious act of sports terrorism. The idea that an elbow would warrant an ejection from a basketball game 15-20+ years ago would've been utterly laughable. I usually hate the tools that wax nostalgic about the way things used to be but that is one aspect of sports that I miss.

I think it had to do with being raised on Bulls/Pistons and Bulls/Knicks games.

My issue is that it wasn't an errant elbow under the basket or some pushing or shoving going on after a hard foul. This was a guy on top of another player, throwing a forearm to his face for no apparent reason. I don't have a big problem with physical play within the confines of a game. (Except when the refs swallow their whistles and ruin the flow of the game)

So anyway, we're 9-5 with 17 conference games left to play + the Big Ten Tourney.

I'd say 20-12 is a minimum. If we lose 13, we probably need 22 wins.

So to get there we can't lose to Indiana, Iowa, Penn State, or Michigan. That puts us at 16-5.

That requires a 4-6 finish with home and aways vs. MSU, Purdue, OSU, Wisconsin, + @ NU, and home vs. Minnesota.

It's possible, but we probably can't get swept by both Purdue and MSU. I'm still too much a kool aid drinker, I say we pull 21-12 and get an 11.

Were the hooks down low and all the traveling as obvious on tv as they were in person?

yikes tennessee

Four Tennessee basketball players, including starting senior forward Tyler Smith, were charged with gun possession and other counts after a Friday traffic stop.

The Knoxville Police Department said Smith, 23, junior point guard Melvin Goins, 22, junior center Brian Williams, 22, and sophomore guard Cameron Tatum, 21, were arrested during a traffic stop for speeding near Tennessee's campus.

According to a police report, officers smelled marijuana coming from the car and found a handgun with an altered serial number, a bag of marijuana and an open container of alcohol. Tatum was driving.

Officers could not determine whether any of the players were under the influence of marijuana, though the strong odor suggested marijuana had recently been smoked in the car, the police report said.

Tatum was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and having an open container of alcohol. Smith was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm with an altered serial number, which is a felony. Goins and Williams both face gun and drug possession charges.

"So coach, what do you have to say about four of your players being arrested for driving drunk and stoned in a speeding car with handguns under the seats at 11:30 in the morning?"

Yes, and I was getting strange looks from the other people at the gym for bitching about the travels that weren't getting called and the chicken wings to get around the corner in the post.

Also, Illinois may be the stupidest basketball team I've ever been a fan of. They do so many dumb things, and not just the freshmen, it's everybody. If Weber ever wants to win big games, they need to be blow outs because it has become apparent he has no clue how to draw up anything at the end of a game or half. And I've been a big supporter of his since he got here, but this is getting ridiculous.

Why the hell did U of I end the game with a timeout remaining? Why in the hell would you not call it on that last [expletive] possession of OT? UGH

Because it wouldn't have mattered. When was the last time you saw them run something decent at the end of a game whether they took a TO or not?

The McBride game against Penn St. that was waved off? One of Weber's weaknesses is drawing up a last second play. Or at least his weakness is getting kids to execute his plays.

With the Big 12 season about to be underway, here's how kenpom.com predicts the standings based on the season so far.

Texas 14-2

Kansas 14-2

Mizzou 11-5

K-State 10-6

aTm 8-8

Baylor 8-8

Oklahoma St. 7-9

Iowa State 6-10

Texas Tech 6-10

Nebraska 5-11

Oklahoma 4-12

Colorado 3-13

Another evenly balanced year between the North and South. I bet OU does better than that with all their youth getting more time though. If this holds true, tadowdaddy loses his bet.

And since they haven't started either, here's the SEC.

East

Kentucky 12-4

Tennessee 11-5

Vandy 10-6

Florida 9-7

South Carolina 6-10

Georgia 4-12

West

Mississippi St. 13-3

Ole Miss 11-5

Bama 8-8

Auburn 5-11

LSU 4-12

Arkansas 3-13

Definitely East-heavy here. Swap UK with MSU and UK might run the table.

I'd be thrilled with 11-5. I think something like 9-7 with a win in the Big 12 tourney gets us into the dance, but I'm still not sold that this team is consistent enough on offense and away from home to pull off a 3rd place finish.

I feel much the same way. Fortunately, 3 of the top 4 South teams are home games this year, and I think there's 9 wins out there for us if they play like they have since the Oral Roberts game.

Yeah, I think our defense will help us knock off a Texas or Kansas (or some other team that is obviously better than us) at home. No matter what, I'm infinitely more excited about this team now than I was about a month ago.
