Northwestern started the game 1 for 14 from 3, went to 2 for 24 early in the 2nd half, but they kept shooting, made a few, and amazingly started to play defense to put away Indiana.

This keeps us on the NIT bubble, but may still need to beat Purdue to get an NIT bid.

i hope iowa hires pearl, but i just don't think there's any way that he interviews for the position.

They forced out his mentor. No way he wants that job.

It's in the best interest of the Big Ten universities to not allow Pearl into the conference.

Why?

There's a reason he's in the SEC

You could say it was in the best interest of the Big Ten universities to not allow Sampson into the conference also. Even to a greater extent. Yet Delaney didn't block that.

To be fair that was a different AD and a different time, the only thing that is the same would be the fans and they would worship him (I think Iowa fans would come back with Pearl). I'd still put Pearl to Iowa at about .001% at best. I don't see why he'd want to come here. His only connection to the university is as an assistant 20 years ago and he has a pretty good thing going at Tennessee.

I'll be pretty pissed if we're not in now. 20 wins is usually enough.

We were on the outside looking in before today. Too many regular conference champions lost their conference tournaments.

NIT selection seems to be rather random, though, so who know.

I don't blame you for thinking that but it's definitely higher than that and that's not his only connection. Last time around I figured it was like a 1% chance. This time around I figured like you that it was basically 0.

It's still not likely to happen but trust me, don't rule it out yet at all. And this isn't based on any internet rumors, just one lucky connection.

He was actually somewhat close to taking it 3 years ago. If Iowa came calling with $2.5-3 mil per year on the table, plus their new practice facility and Carver upgrades on the horizon, I'd be willing to bet there's no way he wouldn't take the job.

And there is no way Delaney could tell Iowa they couldn't hire Pearl.

I wouldn't go that far but it is at least a legit possibility.

Two of his assistants are from Iowa and one of them played here. Bruce really loved it at Iowa and still has some really close friends here, a few of which are in prominent positions. I know on the outside it looks like it makes no sense and I would have thought the same two days ago.

And I'm not 100% convinced he's gone yet.

Come on, read Barta's statement again. Not one mention of the coaching staff or Lick.

When I wrote that I had just heard Lick's response to KCJJ's report. I figured their report was wrong. (The report that he is leaving because of health). I still kind of do . He's most likely gone but I've seen too many rumors end up wrong before.

As far as Pearl goes, I'm trying to put myself in his shoes and it's hard for me to logically see why he would leave where he is at for our school, considering where he is at now.

I think there is a better shot that Keno comes here although I don't know if that excites me or not.

I was listening to an interview with one of the Hawkeye beat reporters on the radio here. He told the hosts that while trying to find out info about the situation he talked to a couple of the "major" boosters (his words), and they had told Barta that he'd better hit a "home run" (again his words) with a new coach. They asked about Pearl, and he said that "every effort would be made to go after him". He said the booster made it sound as if the money wouldn't be an issue. So basically, they would ask Bruce what it would take to get him to Iowa and that would be close to the starting point.

He may not come back, but I'd bet they make it extremely hard, as in nearly impossible, for him to say no.

Would Iowa be able to outspend Tennessee for Pearl? I know Mike Hamilton would basically hand Bruce a blank check because there are already boosters getting annoyed after the Lane Kiffin saga. There's no way, I would think, that Hamilton would let Bruce leave because of money. Keep in mind, he passed up a pretty significant raise from Memphis to stay at Tennessee this past offseason.

That said, I don't want to see Bruce go anywhere. This is the best UT has been since the Ray Mears era (consistently at least, we had our moments in the Jerry Green era) and I really like what Bruce is building.

Bruce may leave but it is very unlikely to be for Iowa. If he leaves it will be for a top job not a rebuilding crapfest.

Yeah, I thought there was a real chance he'd bolt for the Memphis job. I could see him bolting for a UCLA, Syracuse, UConn, etc. type job or the NBA, but he seems very happy at Tennessee and Hamilton is very willing to pay to keep him.

Part of my lack of basketball knowledge, however, is that I don't really know where Tennessee basketball is considered as a program. Obviously in football we're quite a ways up there (just behind the elites, I think), but I don't really know how prestigious the rest of the country views the UT basketball program.

If they lure Pearl it won't be simply because they're giving him way more money than UT. Again, I would say it's not likely but I definitely wouldn't rule it out like I would have a few days ago.

Once in a very great while, being a sports fan can be fun. The last few weeks are one of those times. Had to play a minute straight of defense at the end because of a totally garbage jump ball call - and they did it. Love this team.

On to the semis. Let's see what West Virginia's got.
