North Dakota's playing Michigan? :D

He's referring to the University of Notre Dame, located in South Bend, Indiana. They're coached by Charlie Weis, former offensive coordinator of the New England Patriots. Weis has been maligned in recent years, by opposing fans for his weight(he had gastric bypass in 2002), and by Notre Dame fans for his inability to repeat the success of his first two years, when he had current Cub Jeff Samardzija playing Wide Receiver.

I have no idea how good ND will be this year, but this is as excited as I've been about the CFB season in some time. I can't wait for them to drive up to Ann Arbor and beat the [expletive] out of Michigan.

I love college football and even if ND loses to Nevada by 20 I will be addicted to the upcoming season.

i looked and illinois is a 6-point favorite against mizzou this year. i found that really strange.

I don't. I would think this has to be the year Illinois beats Missouri. At least I hope so.

Except for the Illini, yea thats pretty ugly. However most conferences are as bad as that the 1st week of the season.

That's not too atypical.

SEC opponents in opening week:

NC State

Miami (OH)

Western Kentucky

Oklahoma State

Jackson State

Louisiana Tech

Missouri State

Charleston Southern

Western Carolina

Virginia Tech

Washington

Memphis

I knew it meant Notre Dame; hence the smiley (I suspect you actually both know that). My post was a reference to this poll from around a year ago.

Week 2 has a Big 10 team playing Eastern, Western and Central Michigan.

What, no Northern or Southern Michigan to round out the schedule?

Posted
With the addition of the 12th game, most teams play at least one lower level D-1 school and one 1-AA school. The Big Ten is at least average or better in terms of non-conference scheduling.

I wouldn't mind seeing a rule stating that every BCS school has to play at least 2 other BCS school OOC, but we all know that'll never happen (re: $$$$)

Until you mentioned it I didn't realize you could even do that. I knew you could turn off sigs and avatars, but I didn't realize that could be done with smilies too.

No, they're not. The SEC is probably worse, but pretty much every other major conference is better in that area.

The Big 12 is not usually that great either.

BTW, here's how one computer ranking had the 6 BCS conferences non-conference schedules last year:

Pac 10 .550

ACC .473

Big East .452

Big 10 .449

Big 12 .446

SEC .440

The Pac 10 has clearly been way over everybody the last few years in scheduling (not to mention that they only have 3 non-conference games).

The Big 10 has really suffered the last couple years with the MAC not being quite what it was earlier in the decade and ND not being there either. That's a large part of their scheduling base, and as the mid-major talent has increasingly moved west it has really benefited the Pac 10's schedules.
