I did a run by Kinnick Stadium yesterday and it got me reallllllly excited.

I drove by Kinnick the other day to see it prepared for the season (you know, with the padded season ticket holder seats in place). I can't wait until Sept. 5, although I am more afraid of UNI than I logically should be.

Are Iowa and Wisconsin really hated rivals? I don't remember any particular venom for the Badgers in my 20+ years living in Iowa.

From what I understand, Iowa doesn't really have one set team that the fans despise. It really depends of what part of the state you're from. People in northern Iowa hate Minnesota, people in central Iowa hate Iowa State, People in the Quad Cities hate Illinois, and I suppose people from the Dubuque area don't like Wisconsin although I don't really know. This is based a lot off of message board reading though as I don't know many Hawkeye fans outside of Iowa City and the Quad Cities as those are the only two places I've lived.

I think there is a pretty good rivalry between Wisconin and Iowa because they seem to be two similar school at this point (two middle of the pack, non-OSU, Mich, or PSU, Big Ten teams who have battled for the conference on occasion lately, and they also have seemed to be the best middle of the back teams) but I wouldn't say there is a lot of venom between the two.

they'll be ok

they probably have 2 more 5* guys sitting the bench.

Its one the one position they are thin in. They converted a TE to OL last year, now are converting him back to TE for the season. I think they said he has lost like 30 lbs since the beginning of summer.

i really dont understand the nebraska hype. if people actually expect them to be something this year, well they are going to be disappointed.

I think people are expecting the same jump from 08-09 that they made from 07-08. But it's pretty unlikely. They definitely have a shot at the North, but that's because Missouri is in rebuilding mode and KU has the tough south rotation. Still, they're breaking in a new QB, and Castille got booted from the team. I think they'll struggle to score.

This reply is 6 weeks late (I had forgotten I posted in this thread), but I'd just like to say that I can't believe that the photo of Kansas (on like, page 8 or something) holding up that trophy is real. The Insight(.com) Bowl has the stupidest trophy I have ever seen.

Thank you for deciding not to offer Will Hampton in a timely manner, Notre Dame.

The offer was never coming. Though I like the way Hampton talks about ND.

When I was in college, I narrowed my 2 career choices down to lawyer and President of the United States. After much deliberation, I chose lawyer. I'm sure the USA is disappointed, but this was the best career move for me.

As of a couple of weeks ago, Hampton was talked about as likely Notre Dame's third choice, at worst fourth, for two openings at DT. If you assume that Notre Dame is going to land their top two remaining choices, then no, Notre Dame wasn't going to offer Hampton. But that's probably not the safest assumption.

Hampton didn't want to wait for those top two choices to decide and see where that left Notre Dame.

ND dropped Hampton off the list. He wasn't getting an offer.

Off the list? I haven't seen anything to suggest that Notre Dame was going to stop recruiting him. It does look like there are four DT offers out now, though, so he'd at best be 5th. But that doesn't mean Notre Dame didn't want him anymore.

I feel sorry for Indiana fans:

Adam Rittenberg[/url]"]Indiana has decided to move its 2010 home game against Penn State to FedEx Field, a venture that will pocket $3 million for the school.

The Hoosiers and Nittany Lions will meet Nov. 20, 2010, in Landover, Md., according to an agreement reached between the schools, the Washington Redskins and FedEx Field, which seats 91,704, nearly 40,000 seats more than Memorial Stadium (52,692) in Bloomington.

Indiana still plans to play six home games next fall and could move a Sept. 11 road game against Central Michigan to Bloomington or replace Central Michigan with an FCS opponent.

$3 million for giving up a home game to a stadium full of Penn State fans in Maryland. This is not a good thing for that program.

What a colossally stupid idea by IU. Why all the way to freaking Maryland if you're going to move a home game?

I really hope this whole neutral-site conference game thing doesn't become the norm.

It's not a neutral site. It's a selling of a home game to earn some extra money that I'm sure their athletic department really needs. FedEx Field is going to be mostly Penn State fans and the IU AD is fully aware of that.

Northwestern sold a home game to Ohio State about 20 years ago that was played in Cleveland. NU wore home uniforms, but that was it. It's not just a forfeit of the game, but a forfeit of any strength the program currently has. IU might as well send a white flag up the pole and tell all their fans and potential recruits that they're not going to take things seriously for a few more years.

Well, as long as Bill Lynch is coaching, I suppose they're doing that anyway. That bowl bid they got under him in 07 might end up being a bad thing because they felt obligated to give a really bad coach a chance because of it.

Haha you beat me to it. I was going to say we already ran up the white flag when we gave Lynch the fulltime job.

Maybe I'm just weird but as an Indiana fan and alum this move really does not bother me at all. Now let me say this, I am accepting of the move as a one time endeavor. If Fred Glass does this again then I would not be so understanding. But given the current circumstances I have no problem dealing with it. Our athletic department DOES need the money and this is quite a nice little windfall. And 2010 will likely be a transition year for IU football anyways as I really don't see the team winning enough games this fall to save Lynch from getting canned. Heck maybe part of this money can go towards offering an actual competitive salary to more competent coaching candidate. A guy can dream can't he? ;)

I really don't think our athletic department is sitting around scheming to sell games, it was just a "bolt from the blue" moment provided by Dan Snyder, IU gave him a $ figure they thought would scare him off and they were wrong. Oh well. One offshoot of this whole situation is how suddenly all the IU football message boards are flooded with outraged IU fans. It kind of amuses me seeing as how our fan base overall is pretty pathetic in regards to football and these people obviously don't care enough to actually head to Bloomington on Saturdays and keep a reasonable attendance level. Instead we have embarrassing attendance year after year, even Hep wasn't able to completely reverse that. So if people really want to discourage this type of thing they need to get their rear ends to the games and fill that stadium with Indiana fans every fall Saturday. Until then the outrage just rings hollow to me.
