Tennessee's newest commitment is an offensive lineman from south Florida named Jose Jose. And that name is accurate.

Let me guess, hes a convicted murderer right?

I have low expectations for Auburn this year. If they just make an improvement from last year, I'd be satisfied. For the second consecutive year, there is no starting quarterback named going into the summer. For the second consecutive year, they will be running the spread, albeit this will be a different version. I'd assume that Chizik will gets three seasons to get the program back on track. He'd possibly only have two, but he was handed the program too late into the recruiting season.

It's really gonna be a downer when Tech beats them to start the season.

Football players are idiots. Another Illini football in trouble with the law. Mike Garrity was arrested this weekend for punching a guy at Kams and fracturing his skull. Zook needs to get the program under control.

Champaign police spokeswoman Rene Dunn told the AP a witness reported that the victim, a 19-year-old man from Antioch, was harassing women at the bar. After Garrity confronted him, a witness said the man punched Garrity, prompting a retaliatory blow.

This has now been said to be completely false. They have Garrity on videotape at Kams, just punching this guy for basically no reason. Oh and Garrity is a 6'6" 310 lineman. What a punk.

So I see Tenn is self reporting another secondary violation, as Lane Kiffin mentioned a recruit on Twitter. Im sorry but this is getting ridiculous. Why even have secondary vioaltions when you can just keep doing it over and over and over again with basically no reprecussions? After so many secondary violations there should be a point where these actually get treated like they mean something. Kiffin is pretty blatantly saying screw the system, Ill just keep violating the rules as much as possible, because he knows nothing is going to come from it.

Apparently this was an aide-type person who posted this twitter message in Kiffin's stead, but I get your general point.

Yesterday i was looking at tickets for a UM game and for the hell of it i clicked on the premium seats/suites to the Big House. As a university they have the space of the suite as a 'donation', you pay the hard costs of tickets ~$12,000. The yearly package to a suite/box is $85,000. It then explains that $58,000 is tax deductable. Thats pretty awesome loophole for colleges to attract suite buyers that i never heard of before.

Let us remember that Ron Zook also took players and marched down to a fraternity and challenged them to a fight while he was with UF. The Zooker can recruit, but neither he or his players will ever be mistaken for Rhodes Scholars.

On a different Illinois note. While looking at schedules for this years Big Ten teams, I noticed that Illinois is playing 2 non-con games after the Big Ten season. Is this using some sense and realizing that the Big Ten season ends 2 weeks too early?(especially since Illinois bye week is the last week of the season) Or is it just a scheduling quirck? or is a combination of both?

They probably would have played one game anyway because of the timing of the bye week. The second game is likely because the Big Ten schedule ends so early as it is. I couldn't imagine them playing their last game on November 14.

At Cincinnati and home against Fresno St. Not exactly taking it easy either

Yeah, it should be quite the non-con schedule next year with Mizzou, Cincy and Fresno State (along with the annual intrastate matchup, this year with Illinois State). Of course, the conference schedule misses Iowa and Wisconsin this year, so they likely needed a boost in SOS.

They already had a non-con game slotted in the weekend before Thanksgiving since the Illinois/Northwestern game is moved up to mid-November for 2009 and 2010. That left Illinois with an open date for a non-con in 2010, as well, I would assume. Their future schedules are probably out somewhere, but they'll likely have a Big Ten opponent in the weekend before Thanksgiving for at least 2011 and 2012. Won't be Northwestern since that matchup will be in mid-October for those two years, but should have someone else. Since Big Ten now permits teams to schedule games for thanksgiving weekend, Illinois took advantage of that by scheduling Cincinnati, leaving their third week of the season open as a bye.

The fact that they're ending with two straight non-con opponents is more of a coincidence than an intentional strategy. They already had to end the season with one and it just made more sense to push another to thanksgiving weekend since they'll be able to play on national TV as opposed to a possibly non-televised game in mid-September. It also gives them a bye week, albeit early in the season, when they otherwise would not have had one.

Only a little more than 3 months until kickoff. This has been a very long off-season.

This isnt taunting, just asking. Did Notre Dame make a bowl game? I know when MSU doesnt make one it makes the offseason seem like 9 months :)

Yeah, they blew out Hawaii in their very minor bowl game.

Illinois/Mizzou game called off after 2010.

I'd love a home-home series in the future.

Pansies. I'm not a fan of either team, but that game is usually a heck of a lot more entertaining than most opening weekend garbage. Why not play 1 quality non-con opponent? I understand losing a home game hurts, but come on, give the fans a show. I like the whole 1/2 and 1/2 crowd thing in the border city, too.
