96 walks in 191 innings pitched - that's 4.5 per 9 IP. friggin awful. the orioles were worst in baseball last year, 4.34 BB/9 IP.

someone needs to fix this ASAP.

In partial defense of our pitchers.... walks seem to be up this year all over MLB. I wonder if they've put some pressure on the umpires to call the strike zone as it's described in the rules ????

If that were the case, shouldn't walks be down? The called zone is tighter than the rule book zone.

Where are our walks in comparison to last year. As an offense?

CUBS are on a pace for: Compared to:
                                  2008 2007 2006 2005
.640 walks 638 500 395 419

But if they cut out the outside without calling the high strike (which they're certainly not calling) then the zone shrinks

correct. but the cubs are either worst or second worst in MLB in walks per 9 IP, so even if walks are up league-wide, the cubs are still issuing too many walks relative to the rest of the league.

Correct. This is why I said "In partial defense......"

No, he is of marginal value. He is not worthless.

Aaron Miles folks. On a team with a payroll over 100million haha

i think it's even more comical that a team with a $120M payroll is regularly using one of their starting pitchers to pinch hit.

Ok I get it, Z is a good hitting pitcher. I'm sick of seeing the Cubs be a side show attraction where a pitcher is our number one pinch hitter.
