"I'm just not into negativity," he said. "I can see already I'm going to be that guy that since nothing else is going on in here, 'We're going to harp on Bradley all year and see if we can get him to snap.' I'm not going to go for it. You can't get a good story if I don't talk to [the media]. You'll make something up, like you always do."

"If I talk to you, you're going to make something up, and if I don't talk to you, you're going to make something up. So just go ahead and make something up and leave me out of it."

Simers must've had a field day with him.

You know, Bradley might have a point. 3 articles on the Cubs today in the Trib. Can anyone find any discussion of Zambrano's pitching, the Cubs anemic offense yesterday, Micah's defense, or Lou's postgame comments about the lineup?

Nope...all 3 about Bradley, beginning to end.

Papers are desperate to create stories.

So we know why he's appealing

Why are people so hung up on the appeal story? He doesn't think he deserved suspension, he doesn't want to lose 2 days of pay, there's nothing wrong with him fighting it. There are going to be plenty of times the rest of the year where sitting for a couple days will more or less be a necessity.

I don't see how I'm hung up or really complaining about it. Obviously I'd prefer if he'd take the suspension now, but he's got real reasons for preferring to appeal and knowing that a couple of games could be the difference in $10 million make them stronger.

Let's face it, if Milty doesn't have his bombastic 2008, he doesn't even make it on Hendry's radar.

Bombast: Grandiloquent, pompous speech or writing.

He shouldn't feed into though. Even as far as to defend himself. This is the real world, the truth is, sometimes it doesn't matter if you are 100% right and "they" are 100% wrong, you just don't even engage it at all.

Im not going to say I disagree with Milton, but maybe if he stopped whining and started hitting the bloody ball, it would shut them up.

amen

STRETCH and HIT, but don't talk to reporters!

It wouldnt. Paul Sullivan has had nothing but negative stuff to say about him since he signed with the Cubs, and that little mole will always try making a story. If Im Bradley I dont talk to the media all year, screw them he owes them nothing. Urlacher hasnt talked to the media, and they pretty much just go with the flow, and dont constantly harp on it, but my guess, the same wont happen for Bradley.

i'm pretty sure he couldn't do that, because it would mean that his suspension was served during his DL stint.

At the same time, the team would've been at a 24 man roster for two days and therefore been punished for the suspension. I wouldn't be surprised either way.

If Milton can make his case well -- and if those comments and others I've heard from him are any indication, he will -- he would be wise to speak out against the media. Fans will see that he's well spoken and can defend himself, thus lessening the effect of Sullivan's/other's articles, if not eventually making them go away. Just made that up, but it seems logical :)

If the attacks are personal (i.e. he's crazy, he's irresponsible, he's _______ as a person), why should he not defend himself because he's not hitting the baseball better?

I'm really sick of this game the Chicago media plays with certain players, where a guy won't talk to them so they start casting aspersions all over the place, trying to turn the fans against him, yada yada. It's their way of pulling rank, trying to establish their power over the players they cover.

If Bradley won't talk to them, then they try to get him blackballed, essentially. By the fans, by other media guys, etc. etc. And people read the articles, form their opinions as if the articles are 100% true. Suddenly all you hear are fans repeating what they heard some columnist say a couple days ago. The beat goes on. It's really old and tired.

The guy should be criticized because he isn't hitting the baseball. That's it for me. I don't really care if he doesn't like Sullivan, or won't talk to whoever.

I'm almost positive you can't do that. IIRC the Cubs tried doing that with Kerry Wood a couple of years ago.

They realy need to DL Bradley at this point. Too many guys are banged up and we need another bat. As hot as Jake Fox is, Id rather him in that pinch hitter spot, as thats all Bradley will be for now.

My thoughts as well.

And I'm tiring of these prima donna players who milk the media when it suits them and blame the media when their production drops. Bradley took on the responsibility by signing a long term deal and so far, he's not earned it. It's up to people like Paul Sullivan to ask the tough questions everyday and while you may disagree with it, I'd rather have the beat writers push hard than lay back.

Hendry is really up against it now. Bradley-Miles-Gregg aren't performing, DLee is struggling, Z is struggling, Geo is struggling, ARam is hurt, etc.. DL Bradley till he's healthy, bring up Jake Fox and play him in RF.

Except he doesn't "ask the tough questions," he plays favorites. Just look at how he's treated Aramis and how he treated Mark Prior. If you don't like talking to the media, he turns it against you. A lot of writers do that and it's one of the reasons I hate sports journalism.

there's a difference between asking the 'tough questions' and being a d-bag.

I'd like to see the media just totally ignore someone like Bradley. It would serve 'em right. But, I realize that isn't going to happen; they wouldn't be doing their job. Maybe Bruce could stop by and share some insight on how he deals with, shall we say, high strung athletes ??
