I'd like to point out that I wrote that before Lee whiffed.

I don't think 3-2 is really a true hit and run.

At the same time, the Cubs should never run on Yadier Molina. There is absolutely no situation where it is worth it.

He had Fukudome running on 3-1.

People want to know why Lee GIDPs so damn much? Just look at the manager for your answer.

Was it close at second?

Not at all. He was out by a mile.

Fukudome didn't run on 3-1 (I just checked to make sure). He ran twice in a row on 3-2.

And I absolutely don't agree with the GIDP comment. The hit and run forces Lee to make more weak contact than normal. It causes more outs on the bases.. But the combination of weak contact+ runner going either makes the number of GIDP's stay the same or lower them, not raise them. That's the only benefit though and there are more negatives to be brought up.

The Cardinals have so many crappy players that their names are starting to be the same. Brian Barton, Brian Barden...

The problem with the hit and run is that the runner is not going at full speed. The runner has to look back and usually loses a few steps while going; it's not like the guy has a straight steal sign and is going full bore. Even if there is weak contact, there shouldn't be too much trouble for a SS or 2B to get the out at second and then get the runner at first.

Plus, I disagree that Lee will make a lot of weak contact. Usually he hits the bad pitch with some authority and the ball gets to the SS/2B with relative ease.

Yeah I noticed it too; I was wondering when Barden suddenly became so big and white.
