HUH? Ump saying he didn't hold the bag.

And he's wrong. I swear, 3/4 of these calls go against us.

How many hit and runs have worked out for us this year? How many have not worked out?

Lou is just wasting outs.

I'd really like that question to be asked. I'm pretty sure at least 80% of them have led to an unnecessary out.

i also can't think of many positive results that have come out of running. lots of caught stealing, one stolen base was a gift of a blown call from an umpire, and no singles through the vacated hole. in fact i remember a bradley GIDP where the 2B was moving toward 2B and the ball was hit right at him.

Lee's foot wasn't just against the bag, it was ON the bag. Stupid umps. Geez.

I'm not a huge fan of the hit and run either.

But our minds are always going to be conditioned against the hit and run because we remember when people are gunned out much more than when either the steal is successful or the hitter hits a ground ball that becomes 1 out instead of 2.

Unfortunately we'd have to track each result by ourselves. My guess it is overall a negative thing but much closer than people think.

watching the game here in colorado... i HATE the rockies announcers....

"its really not the umps fault because they are listening for the sound of the ball hitting the glove and the throw from miles wasn't hard enough to make a noise."

I believe BP or one of the SABR people did exactly that and the results were decidedly negative. I'll do some digging around online to see if I can find it...

Even though this last hit and run was with a guy at the plate with a worse batting average than our worst hitting pitchers, I still tend to think it's better to move runners with Lee at the plate, because he hits too many balls on the ground.
