Good choice to run Lou you idiot.

With Lee hitting and his propensity to hit in Dp's last year I dont blame Lou.

Yeah, i understand why he did it. To be fair though, that was the same pitch that was called a ball 2 times in a row so I don't really blame lee for not swinging either.

That wasnt close to being the same pitch as the other 2. Those other 2 were clearly outside and that one wasnt

If I remember right, the second half of the season Lee didn't ground into an above average amount of double plays. His numbers were skewed by a really bad stretch then reverted to normal.

That only encourages him to swing at bad pitches. Frankly, part of the reason Lee had so many freaking DPs last year was because he'd be up with a runner on first and Lou would stupidly call for a hit and run.

What was his excuse this time? That was a driveable pitch and he watched it go by WHILE the runner was running.

well they need to either stop calling for hit and runs or start telling lee to swing more on borderline 3-2 pitches. the current philosophy of "watch lee take a strike and run into easy double play" isn't working out.

If Lou has so little confidence in Lee not hitting into a DP then why does he still bat him 3rd and 4th in the line-up? Awful.

He should have swung at the pitch, but I don't think Lou should have sent the runners there.

Well is it a bad thing to encourage Lee to swing the bat with 2 strikes? Because he sure does take a hell of alot of strike 3s looking. And Im not quite sure why with 2 runners on, it would encourage him to swing at a bad pitch. If its a bad pitch you take the walk

True.

19 in the first half and only 8 in the second half.

I really hate that we give outs away due to Lou's bull headed insistance that Lee hit 3rd or 4th.

I wonder if Lou is giving a signal to run, or if he's just given Theriot the green light. Here's to hoping he takes that away.

Well, that last one was a double steal so it had to have been called from the dugout. And the first time when Theriot ran in the Fukudome at-bat it was on a 3-1 count, which is a count that is almost certainly called from the dugout as well (runners would rather go with the runner down in the count).

And I also thought the last pitch to Lee was a strike while the previous ones weren't.

Fukudome was the one that was gunned down.

How many hit and runs have worked out for us this year? How many have not worked out?

Lou is just wasting outs.

Yeah...my bad. Gamecast on mlb was slow, and I assumed it was Theriot...

You guys weren't supposed to notice that post buried at the end of the last page :P

I'd really like that question to be asked. I'm pretty sure at least 80% of them have led to an unnecessary out.

It's not a bad thing to encourage him to swing the bat in certain circumstances. It's a bad thing to force him to swing at a bad pitch because the runners are going and they're not going at full speed. It's a bad thing to not send the runners at full speed because they can be gunned down if Lee doesn't make contact.
