top 10 in ERA+ 10 times, including 5 in the top 5. top 6 in whip 11 times. plus the great numbers in the postseason. his profile is basically just as strong as bob gibson, who's revered as a great pitcher and a no-doubt hall of famer. he belongs in.

i think a lot of people just think about the bloody sock, the postseason numbers, and his big mouth and forget the fact that when schilling was in his prime he was ridiculously good.

in 02 he had 316 k's and still had a 9.6:1 K:BB. that's ridiculous.

a guy like glavine will get in because he has 300 wins, but schilling (who has significantly better numbers for his career) will be left out because he has less innings and wins. i don't think that's right.

An extra 1150 innings is really valuable.

Schilling's most comparable pitchers:

# Kevin Brown (920)

# Bob Welch (900)

# Orel Hershiser (889)

# Freddie Fitzsimmons (884)

# John Smoltz (882)

# Milt Pappas (880)

# Don Drysdale (875) *

# Dazzy Vance (873) *

# Jim Perry (871)

# Catfish Hunter (869) *

Three HOFers in the bunch. All of those are good pitchers. Smoltz is a borderline case who likely gets in.

He's not a definite, and his post season performance may get him in, but I'm not sure he's deserving. If Schilling belongs, then a case for Brown and Hershiser should be made as well.

Neither was Schilling.

Cause he didn't pitch them.

If you have to ask the question, then no said player is not a HOFer. IMO. You KNOW Maddux is a HOFer. You KNOW Randy Johnson is a HOFer. You KNOW Tom Glavine is a HOFer. But you have to ask if Curt Schilling is a HOFer? That right there answers your question.

With that said, Don Sutton is in the HOF, and I don't think he is a HOFer. So if Sutton is a HOFer then Schilling certaintly is. I think Curt Schilling is a borderline HOF and unlike Smoltz (who should and will get in) Schill may have to wait awhile, if ever, to get the call.

Wait what?

How do I KNOW Tom Glavine is a hall of famer?

Because he has the mandatory 300 wins.....like d'uh..... 8-) Isn't that what media has been telling us?

I am thoroughly confused.

It sounds almost exactly like what one of those analysts on BBTN or SC would say though.

I will admit I was a little surprised to see Rob Neyer say the other day that Schilling was a sure fire HOF. Not that he would absolutely get in, but that he should.

I haven't studied much of Schilling's career, but he seems haunted by low W totals. Not sure if the great post-season performance and the aura of the bloody sock will be enough to overcome it.

I think Glavine is pretty obviously a hall of famer.

300+ wins (might be last player to reach 300)

2 NL Cy Young's (4 other seasons in the top 3 in the award)

8 times in Top 10 in ERA

5 times led NL in Wins

10 time All-Star

Planning on the Randy Johnson heart attack?

Every guy that gets to 300 wins is considered the last one ever. 300 game winners aren't any more rare now than they were ever.

why do we KNOW that glavie is a HOFer? because he has racked up a high total of a team stat due to playing on great teams?

glavine doesn't belong in the same category as RJ and Maddux
