this isn't 2009 related, but i'm sure as hell not going to create a 2010 recruiting thread.

penn st got some good commitments recently for the 2010 recruiting class, and they had a lot of really good prospects at the state college nike training camp this weekend. the commitments so far:

paul jones, qb (5* on scout and 4* on rivals, #3 QB on scout)

mike hull, ilb (4* on both sites, #2 ILB on scout)

adrian coxson, wr (4* on both sites, #14 WR on scout)

silas redd, rb (4* on both sites, #21 RB on scout)

luke graham, og (3* on scout, #9 OG)

usually our early commits are not all that impressive so this is pretty exciting. they seem to be capitalizing on the good year they had in 2008 and there seems to be a lot of talent in the northeast this class.

psu is getting a lot more early recruits than i can remember. based on scout rankings, they have 5* and 4* QB commits, a pair of 4* DT's, a 4* MLB, two 4* OL, a 4* RB, a 3* OL, 3* DE and 1* WR (jordan norwood's younger brother, who will probably end up being better than everyone thinks). this weekend they're doing a lifting fundraiser and there are supposedly a couple of other highly-regarded recruits that may commit.

the dude said he wanted to go to a place "where the coach was one of his buddies"

i dont think we will miss him, but good luck with that attitude

We'll miss his talent. Physically at least, he's a beast. Iowa is in decent shape with another 4 star TE but this dude looks like a freak.

Illinois going from being out of the picture a couple months ago to earning his commitment because he thought the coaches were guys he would like to hang out with is fairly odd though.

And I would submit that by his junior year the Zooker is out of Champaign.

because he gets fired or leaves for another job? the only way i see him getting canned that quickly is for recruiting violations.

true. i'd rather the illini have talent than have none but have a great tactical coach. with talent, you always have a shot at winning and your team is generally fun to watch.

i don't want to go back to the days of turner, not that he was a great tactical coach, but that's what illinois will get, unless they can lure brewster away from minny.

I'm the opposite in football. In college basketball there's a higher rate of success for teams with just talent than in football. Off the top of my head, look at Miami, FSU, Tennessee, Clemson and Nebraska in recent years. There are a lot more variables in football recruiting than basketball.

And you do not want Brewster. He is an absolute joke.

OU has the No. 2 and No. 3 all-purpose backs in the nation for 2010... I have a feeling this offense is going to stay insane for the foreseeable future

Do you think they can keep both without one decommiting? Big 12 Offenses are not going to be slowing down anytime soon. Between Seastrunk, White, and Jeffcoat there could be a real recruiting battle here in North Texas this fall. I am really hoping Texas lands White to give Garrett Gilbert after he redshirts this year.

Imagine if Robert Griffin had any actual weapons with him at Baylor.

but you don't generally win conference titles and go to bcs bowls without talent, regardless of the coach. you need the talent to win, all of those schools that you mentioned have had a marked dropoff in recruiting since the late 90's/early aughts.

you can win without coaching but you can't win without talent.

and i'd take brewster over a lot of candidates that illinois would attract.

yeah i have to agree with sulley here. before zook got there, illinois routinely got stomped on by the upper-echelon teams in the big ten. they could win non-conference games over bad teams and beat the dregs of the big ten, maybe win a game over a mid-tier big ten team, but teams like ohio st, michigan/penn st/wisconsin/iowa on their good years, those were basically automatic losses for illinois. from 2003-06 they won two big ten games. that's pathetic. zook at least has them to a point where they can big considered a middle-of-the-road big ten program and can pull off some upsets of ranked teams, and that's a hell of a lot better than i would've expected a few years ago.

yeah, i think they'll stay. we had 2 1,000 yard backs last year. I really want to see Calhoun on the field, but it's gonna be hard to get him touches with both murray and brown back.

i mean, madu is kick ass in his own right, and they're splitting him out just to get him on the field.

the illini just stole cj fiedorowicz, the #2 tight end in the country, away from iowa and ohio state.

eat it mbc.

I know CJ, he's in my backyard practically. He gave up baseball for football. As a Soph. in HS was 86-89. Just an amazing athlete. It'll be interesting how he does at Johnsburg next year, their QB will be playing baseball down at Miami and Johnsburg's FB coach (as well as the basketball, wrestling, and AD) was fired for stealing.

That's a great pick-up for U of I.

He should've played baseball his Junior and Senior seasons.

He's 6'7" at a real small school, so he'd play all 3 sports but regardless of the size of school, he'd be real good at each sport. He is a good basketball player, he dwarfs everyone in the Fox Valley conf.
