Time to turn on the draft and bag the cubs game.

Everette Brown and Rey Rey are still there. I know it's against Thompson's policy to trade up, but this would be the time to do it if he ever did break his plan.

Looks like you got your wish. The Packers have just traded with New England.

I figured we wouldn't get Rey, we seem pretty sold on Hawk and Barnett manning the interior spots of the 3-4.

I like it. I'm impressed with Thompson today in getting two players that should really bolster our front seven.

Agreed. Moreno would have been the pick if available. Brown also fits the Colts offense. Wells wouldn't have been picked under any circumstance.

My guess is Brown was 4th or 5th on their list of 6. And with the only great options at DT gone and no receiver that sticks out, it makes sense to go RB now.

Wasn't Wells injured often? Addai was and is a good back, but also injured all the time. I don't know if the Colts wanted to take that risk. Brown sounds like the typical back they go for, like Addai a couple years earlier. Someone who can run, catch and block well. I didn't follow the draft this year like I usually do, but it seems from what Kiper was saying Moreno and Brown were both ahead Wells in the all-around category.

If Donald Brown works really hard he'll be half as good as Beanie Wells.

Why would you think that? Certainly Wells is more talented, but he's not that much better. I really like this pick. Like Exile said, the Colts need a RB.

Wells couldn't see the field for the Colts. If you can't block or catch the ball, you can't be a RB in the Colts system. It has nothing to do with talent level. I think we all agree that Wells is the more talented pure runner, but he would really hurt the Colts when he was on the field. If the Colts drafted Wells, the only time they could really use him would be as a goal line/3rd and 1 back, and you don't draft a RB in the first round for those two situations.

I'm honestly leaning towards going with the Bears right now with the Niners behind them.

Not sure if I could go with the Saints because they seem to have that tortured franchise thing going for them and I'm not sure I could double up in two sports with that.

The Niners would obviously be easier since they would be a local team and I'd get to watch all of their games.

No offense but if you weren't here through the horrible years you don't deserve to be here for the good years soon to come.

Nicks to the Giants at 29, which leaves Britt as the next best receiver available. I'm really doubting at this point Britt falls to the 49th pick.

Exactly.

Excellent post by me; really added a lot.

Yes, an obvious time to bandwagon jump. Not in the Montana/Rice/Young years, that would be too obvious. Real bandwagon jumpers jump for the Alex Smith/Michael Crabtree combo.

I'll give you catching the ball. He's not going to be great in space (Brown isn't either) but Ohio State backs are never asked to catch the ball out of the backfield and usually end up being pretty good. Wells size/speed combo is better, gets downhill better, is better at the point of attack. As for blocking, I don't really buy that as something that's unique to the Colts. All NFL backs need to be able to block now if they want to be 3 down backs. If you don't believe he can block then you coach him up. The NFL is full of talented runners who weren't great pass protectors.

Brown is kind of like Matte Forte version 0.7
