I'm fairly certain OU would get obliterated by Alabama, Florida, or USC. Surely a quality coaching staff with a month to prepare could learn how to slow down these new fangled slants and crossing routes. Clearly Big XII defenses have never seen such groundbreaking plays.

I just don't get it. They aren't that balanced. They don't use much motion or misdirection. They put Bradford in the gun and let him throw slants and crosses. They don't even attack deep a lot. This only worked for like 10 weeks for the 2007 Patriots and they had the greatest deep threat in NFL history and arguably the best QB. Yet, Big XII defenses are somehow scheming MORE poorly against it as the season progresses.

It shouldn't require Bill Belichick to figure out a way to slow this down. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised at a repeat of the Jason White OU teams' bowl performances (or last years Sooners, eloel). Carroll and Saban butchered those offenses with a month to prepare.

I could see those teams beating them, but I don't know about obliteration. Especially Alabama.

I think Oklahoma would beat Alabama at this point. It would be a tossup with USC, probably. Florida, well, I'm not sold anyone is even close to them. I think UF will cruise by Alabama and the runners-up-to-be, so I might agree with him on a third of his statement.

Edit: Well, "cruise" might be too emphatic of a term depending on Harvin's health.

i changed my mind, OU will score at least 70 on us. i'm just hoping the weather is just as bad if not worse than today in KC next week

Hey, at least you have a competent offense.

I'm just hoping that USC's defense doesn't kill anyone on UCLA.

BALL GAME

and i could definitely see florida blow OU out. No one else, though. Well, USC maybe.

USC's offense is not that impressive.

No, it hasn't really been very good (relatively) since Leinart-Bush left. I would be stunned if they could put enough points up to blowout anyone the caliber of Oklahoma.

But I would love to see their defense against Florida or Oklahoma's offense. Their defense is ridiculously good.

I entered:

Florida beats Florida State

Georgia Tech beats Georgia

Alabama beats Auburn

Kansas beats Missouri

Oklahoma beats Oklahoma State

into the colley playgod feature. last week in the BCS It was

1. TEXAS (10-1) 0.94460

2. ALABAMA (11-0) 0.91600

3. UTAH (12-0) 0.90587

4. FLORIDA (10-1) 0.90217

5. OKLAHOMA (10-1) 0.89398

it spits out

1. TEXAS (10-1) 0.94429

2. OKLAHOMA (11-1) 0.92392

3. FLORIDA (11-1) 0.92107

4. ALABAMA (12-0) 0.91556

5. UTAH (12-0) 0.90634

Note: Texas and Texas Tech games seemingly have NO impact on the ordering.

One thing to take note of is that Florida and Oklahoma were behind Utah (and Texas Tech) in the computers prior to this week. They're both likely to surpass Utah in most of the computers and possibly Texas Tech. Texas had no "hidden" points to make up in the computers. Oklahoma did. My guess is that our BCS rankings tomorrow will be:

1. Alabama

2. Oklahoma

3. Texas

4. Florida

5. Southern Cal

on a play by play basis they've been very productive.

If Texas lost to Texas Tech first then beat OU, would we be having this same debate tomorrow?

No, but if Penn State lost to Iowa in September and drilled Oregon State and Ohio State the last two weeks they'd be in the debate (for the Nat'l Title)

This sounds bad considering how badly we played, but I was very happy with this Tennessee performance. Jonathan Crompton didn't do anything stupid and didn't turn the ball over at all - in fact, after the third quarter he was 6-8 for 101 yards and a TD. His best throw of the night was a deep TD pass on a post pattern to Dernarius Moore. Hopefully he can build on this outing and have some confidence going into next year.

I was also very glad to send Fulmer out with a win. It was a very emotional scene on the field as he met his players at midfield and they carried him off with flashbulbs going in the background. Awesome moment for a terrific head coach.

Ping, your boys played pretty well. The offense wasn't very good, and it didn't help that John Chavis appears to have figured out how to defend the spread option offense this season. Randall Cobb only had a few runs of any significance tonight, but he's definitely fast and very athletic.

Now, onto the Lane Kiffin era. For better or worse . . . . .

And if Texas Tech lost to Oklahoma in September and beat Oklahoma State and Texas the last two weeks, would we be having the debate of Texas/Texas Tech? (No)

Yes, but that argument doesn't help Texas and thus is not valid!

It's coordinating 101. You play coverage or you sell out on pressure. You don't allow him to sit back there and pick you apart.

You sell out for pressure and it takes too long to get around the enormous O-Line and Bradford checks down.

You play coverage and DeMarco Murray is grabbing cornerbacks by the throat and sacrificing them to the football gods 15 yards downfield.

Ok, I guess it was wrong of me to suggest that opposing defenses were doing anything less than their very best work at scheming against Oklahoma. They should continue to resign themselves to Bradford completing 70% of his throws at 10.5 YPA for a 7/1 touchdown to interception ratio.

You're right, defensive coordinators couldn't be doing any better a job at game planning against OU.

I hear in preparations they just go help the offense cause they're gonna need it to score 70 to keep pace with OU.

Seriously, do you really think OU is that simple to stop? They light up everyone, and they played one of the best defenses from two other conferences, so it's not like this exclusively a Big 12 mystery.

I'm not really saying anything about slowing them down. I would expect qualified FBS defensive coordinators to at least force OU to put up its 50-60 points by doing something in addition to having a great short to intermediate passing game.

Like I said earlier, OU's offense isn't especially balanced, they don't pressure defenses with a large amount of deep throws (outside of the Gresham tipped pass their longest completion tonight was 21 yards), and they don't use a lot of motion or misdirection. This isn't the Florida attack that employs TONS of motion, misdirection, exotic formations, gadget plays, etc. and it isn't reliant on a once in a century freak of nature like Vince Young. It's largely Bradford sitting in the gun and nickel and diming teams to death yet teams can't slow it down at all.

At the very least, good coordinators shouldn't be getting WORSE at scheming for it as the season progresses with more film to look at and sounder technique/execution from players.

i know what you mean

it's not like ou has the best QB in it's school history, an entirely senior offensive line that is probably the best in the nation, one of the top three TEs in the nation, a top-5 RB duo or a group of good, experienced WRs.

you'd think OU had like, good players or something.
