I don't agree with Garwilly much, but I know that he doesn't make stuff up. So he must have heard it. Good news for the Cubs.

The Good Bruce did say yesterday that the Peavy trade was still alive according to his sources with the Cubs.

I believe he said something like "The Cubs are still talking about Peavy"

EDIT:

They continue to talk about Peavy.

Got to believe that the Lowe signing firmly closes the door for the Braves as an option for Peavy.

I think adding Vaz and the Kawakami close the book for the Braves on Peavy, but Lowe signing locks the door.

Pea-vy or not Pea-vy,-- That is the question: --

Whether 'tis nobler for the NL Central to suffer the slings and arrows of an outrageous rotation, or to take arms from our mediocre farm system, to dominate in the regular season, perchance to get swept again in the playoffs. For in that sweep of death what dreams may come.

Sorry, bored

I don't know if it's by design or not but, I'm glad Hendry chose to wait Towers out. Towers is seeking a King's Ransom for a player who, at this point, isn't worth it, 3-5 years ago Towers may have been able to command such a catch for Peavy but, not now. By waiting Towers out Hendry', if he does trade for Peavy, won't have to empty the farm system to do so. I believe he'll trade for Peavy without giving up Vitters.

I don't necessarily think Hendry is being patient. I think if they had a deal in place that Hendry liked enough to pull the trigger on he would've done it at the winter meetings. That plus all the news about how the Cubs can't seriously discuss a trade until the new owner is announced and gives them the green light seems a legit enough reason to hold off on talks. I don't think Hendry is playing the waiting game with Towers because that's his srtategy. I think, if anything, he's doing it because he has no choice. He couldn't get a favorable deal at the winter meetings and he can't add that much salary without ownership approval

We won't get Peavy without giving up Vitters.

Cubs get Jake Peavy

Padres get Josh Vitters, Aaron Heilman, Garrett Olson, Jeff Stevens, and Kevin Hart

Mariners get Ronny Cedeno and Luis Vizcaino

Orioles get Felix Pie

Done and Done.... why is this taking so long? There should be an ownership announcement followed by a Peavy announcement 3 seconds after.

More like a city council person's ransom. And how is Peavy worth less now than he was a few years ago? Are we assuming his career is winding down?

Yeah its kind of dumb to assume peavy is worth less right now than a few years ago. I mean he's only 27 and no, before anyones says it he's not injury prone or due for an injury because he hasn't had many DL stints to justify it. Its all just pure speculation in my opinion until someone comes out and says he has shoulder or elbow problems. I would say if anything he's worth more now than back then because right now he's a smarter pitcher and entering his prime. But trading them in either periods doesnt make a difference because i doubt his worth went down.
