1:10pm: Roman Modrowski of the Chicago Sun-Times says Peavy sang "Go Cubs, Go" at a Vegas bar last night. Good times. But did Roy Oswalt sing along? Also, Modrowski believes the Cubs would be willing to eat as much as $6MM of Marquis' $9.875MM.

Sounds like nobodys more pumped tah Jake

Sounds like Jake may have been drinking...

He's getting acclimated to the Chicago lifestyle.

He needs to understand that being a Farnsworth incarnate is not something to strive for.

Reports of this deal imminent are premature. There is no deal at hand. That may change later this week, but I talked with "Cubs people" this morning, and they said reports of this being a nearly done deal are not true. I have no reason not to believe them. It still could get done, and it could yet get done this week, but there's nothing immediate on this.

Randy Johnson is a back-burner option for the Cubs. I ran into one of Johnson's agents about an hour ago. He had nothing, and agents like to push the notion that things are hot sometimes.

I think the Cubs would be stronger with DeRosa. If they traded him, maybe Fontenot could step in. Two team trades are hard to make these days. Three-team deals are really difficult to pull off.

What about a Kerry Wood (before he got married) incarnate?

Except major differences in the circumstances.

Yeah one of my buddies would always make that a rule in a drinking game in college--got tough.

Circle of Death I'm guessing?

Wow that's a great rule. Thanks for that.

Yes and YW

I don't know about anyone else, but I really need this Peavy trade to be completed so that my plate will be clear to work on other things.

Sadly, that is also the case with me.

I have been holding off on my brother's Christmas present, waiting so I can buy him an authentic #44 instead of #18.

I think you'd be best off not getting a Moises Alou jersey regardless of whether Peavy comes.

2:02pm: Tom Krasovic says the Padres are not seeking J.A. Happ or Chris Coste as has been previously rumored. Also, Ronny Cedeno is not the Padres' first choice to replace Khalil Greene at short. Krasovic adds that the Braves apparently are now happy the Padres didn't take their offer for Peavy.

This really sucks, i'm going to keep my eye on it but i'm not going to get my hopes up until it happens. As far as im concerned it won't happen until i heard Cubs trade for Peavy. And i hope Kaplan on CTL doesn't say something like " I talked to some people within the Cubs organization that say its pretty much dead for now until they get the ownership situation figured out" I'm tired of that want to be insider bumb.

Like I said last night, DeRosa to Philly might mean Jason Donald goes to SD.

Which keeps Cedeno for us as Fontenot's platoon partner.

Im pretty sure ELCABALLO45 mentioned this like 10 posts before this... and no one thought it was funny then...

I am now sure that ELCABALLO45 likes to refer to himself in the 3rd person

Haha, have you ever actually tried to do that in real life? You feel really stupid. But seriously, Jake Peavy sitting at a bar singing go cubs go, is kinda funny.

Jake Peavy sitting in a bar...$10 bucks

Jake Peavy sitting in a bar singing "Go Cubs Go" drunk...$63,000,000

Jake Peavy sitting in a bar singing "Go Cubs Go" drunk with Roy Oswalt...priceless.

There is speculation amongst executives that the Cubs are dumping payroll to make a run at Bobby Abreu. Moving DeRosa and Marquis would definitely do the trick, even with Peavy on the roster.

This site has been iffy in the past, but the dude claims he's at the hotel.

He also says that they've been informed a press conference is scheduled at 12 (their time), but that eh doesn't think it's going to be anything significant.

It's already past 12 in Las Vegas

Oh really. I've got 12:23 on my clock.
