Yeah Glavine and Smoltz should be forced to retire too. It's only right. Kinda like how in Egyptian times, when a pharaoh died, the wife was burried with him - alive or not.

With steroids tainting Roger Clemens (mwahahahaha!), you can make a really good case that Greg Maddux was the best pitcher of his era.

I agree...either him or Amaury Telemaco

I think Smoltz shouldn't retire just yet. Yeah he's old and yeah he just had major surgery, but unlike Glavine and Maddux, he was still an above average pitcher. I'd like to see if he can bounce back for another year or two. It's not like he was putting up mediocre numbers like Maddux and Glavine were. Smoltz was still good. I'd hate to see him go out just because Maddux and Glavine do, I think that's a BS excuse, especially when he's got the skill to still be one of the better pitchers in the league.

Are you putting Pedro Martinez in his era or just behind it?

That was my thought.

I'm glad we won't see any more inexplicable standing O's given to Maddux while playing for other teams. It was getting Cardinals-fan-esque there towards the end.

One of my favorites of all-time. Glad I got to see him in a Cubs uniform when I was old enough to appreciate it, even if he was past his prime.

Yeah, definitely. He was gone the first time around when I was barely old enough to appreciate him. He didn't set the world on fire with his 2nd go-around as a Cub, but it was cool seeing him get his 3,000th k.

Pedro was the more dominating pitcher at his peak (arguably...you can make an argument that he wasnt), but its hard to discredit Maddux's consistency. Plus Maddux's peak years were pretty dominating and can only be matched by Pedro.

So what hat does he wear in the HOF?

Braves.

There might be an outside chance he doesn't wear a Braves hat, assuming they're giving players the choice by then. Even so, still the Braves.

It's kinda funny that the last 3 years Greg Maddux hasn't been a Cub, they have made the playoffs.
