holliday had nearly a 30-30 season because he played the padres. i dont want any part of a holliday trade.

He stole about 3x as many bases as he averaged over those many PAs. He also hit about 1/3 the amount of HRs.

What he meant was that without the padres terrible arms behind the plate he wouldn't have stolen as many bases and people wouldn't be talking about Holliday being such a "speed threat".

As previously mentioned he stole 19 bases vs. other teams. Holliday's steals are pretty far down the list of why I want him.

I don't have a link but supposedly when the Reds asked about Holliday, they were told Cueto and Juan Francisco (A ball 3B) would be deal-breakers. I don't think the Cubs could get him even if they wanted to.

Cubs don't have enough in their farm system to get this trade done. Face it folks that management has made some bad decisions in deals that they have signed. Nobody is going to be willing to take on Soriano's contract let alone all the stipulations that go with him, ex has to bat leadoff. Now you have Fukudome and its not a good thing when you get in Lou's doghouse but again folks management had to have this guy and now your stuck with him. There are deals that the Cubs could make but it would pretty much over haul their current roster.

What a ridiculous thing to say.

Yea its becoming quite apparent that Athletics36 holds a grudge against Cubs management for trading away his son. Id love to see his proof of all these "stipulations" regarding Sorianos contract. Im about 99.99 percent positive they are all media fabrications and are nowhere near the truth. As for the Fukudome comment, not only did Cubs management have to have him, but alot of other teams wanted him badly as well. Its not the Cubs management fault that he struggled in the 2nd half.

I don't know about the extra stuff in Soriano's contract, but no one's going to take him at this point anyway. And Fukudome may make adjustments and be the hitter we'd hoped for, but he's definitely in Lou's doghouse, which isn't an easy place to escape. You may not disagree with his statements, but I don't think Athletics36 is too far off in his assessment. Unles Fukudome moves to CF, it looks like our corner OF spots are locked up for several years.

Soriano aint going nowhere. Thats just the way it is. Probably not Fukudome either. Holliday, however, is a difference maker type of player, as Soriano was thought to be. He could be our number 3 hiter we need so badly, and let Lee bat 5th or 6th as he should. I dont know what it will to get him, but if its possible, hopefully, Hendry can make it happen

It appears that the Cardinals are in pursuit of Holliday.

Link.

Having already discussed Ludwick and Rick Ankiel with the Atlanta Braves for either 26-year-old shortstop Yunel Escobar or second baseman Kelly Johnson, the Cardinals also are pursuing Colorado Rockies All-Star left fielder Matt Holliday, who likely will be dealt before next month’s winter meetings in Las Vegas.

Mozeliak did not confirm the Cardinals’ involvement for Holliday; however, industry sources confirmed Thursday afternoon that Ludwick could be part of a multi-player deal involving Holliday.

Oh great. Holliday will turn into Mickey Mantle if he goes to the Cardinals.

He'll learn how to switch hit?

Is Ludwick for Holliday much of an upgrade, especially if Ludwick isn't the only player in the deal?

Holliday is 2 years younger, but Holliday also costs a bunch more in salary.

It's not much of an upgrade, but it's a better bet going forward(one they'd pay for with the increased salary).

Cards won't be getting Holliday.

Link.

Mozeliak insisted Sunday that discussions involving Colorado Rockies left fielder Matt Holliday have ceased and that "nothing is imminent. That one’s not happening — at all."

Mozeliak did not disclose what caused a breakdown in talks, but a source familiar with the process said the Cardinals GM balked at the player package rather than salary concerns.

hopefully the deal is dead as is sort of reported, but i had a conversation with my cardinal fan friend and said just this. it's a deal you make, because you don't think ludwick is going to have that season again, but it's hardly a huge marginal increase over what you had last season. if this is all you do, you're the same 82 win team you were last year.
