I don't understand why people are acting like this is such a terrible World Series. I'm more interested in the World Series this year than I have been in awhile. Seriously, do we really need to see another Red Sox world series? Phillies vs Rays is good baseball with good stories all around.

Its not quite as compelling as a Cubs vs Rays World Series, but it will have to do.

I would like to see the Rays win, but it is a bit depressing to see that franchise make the World Series before the Cubs.

I always thought that the Phillies were one of the more premier teams in baseball. Not on the Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs, Cardinals, Giants, Dodgers level, but just a step below with teams like the Tigers.

We'll have to wait and see if it can be the most exciting of all time. My vote goes to the 1991 World Series...Braves vs. Twins.

That was a good one. The Marlins-Indians series in '97 was pretty damn entertaining, too.

Nothing tops 2001.

Had some real good players in that series. Manny Ramirez, Jim Thome, Hersheiser, Vizquel are all likely Hall of Famers.

Borderline guys are: Sheffield (500 HR), Alou (2100 hits, 6x AS), Robb Nen (300 saves), Tony Fernandez (2200 hits as a SS), Jose Mesa (320 saves)...though none will get in.

Then you have guys like Bobby Bonilla, Brian Giles, David Justice, Matt Williams, Kevin Brown who put together multiple elite seasons.

Sandy Alomar Jr. was near the top at his position for a lot of his career too.

Wasn't Kenny Lofton on that Indians team?

He would fall under the borderline guys, I would think.

Whoops. I guess he wasn't on that year's team. It appears he played a season in Atlanta and then went back to Cleveland.

Same here. I like the fact that there are no old, tired stories going on here(Manny, Clemens, Jeter, Yankees,Yankee Stadium, RedSox, Veritek, Mariano Rivera, long WS droughts,etc..) that McCarver and Fox Sports will cram down our throats each and every game. With the exception of this 9=8 stuff, it seems like it should just be about baseball.

You forget the young Edgar Renteria, the pre-David Eckstein in Craig Counsell, Al Leither, Alex Fernandez, Luis Castillo. Yeah, I agree that was an outstanding World Series, even tho I thought the Braves got severely screwed by Eric Gregg (RIP) in the NLCS that yr.

If people don't tune in to watch the Rays/Phillies World Series, then those people are not baseball fans. I may not watch every game, but I will watch atleast half the games in the series. This is going to be a hell of a series.

So premier, but not top 25% of the pre-90's expansion premier?

Both teams in 1991 played so well and really didn't make any mistakes it seemed like, where 2001 had what 3-4 blown saves. 2001 was great though as was 1997. I hear that 1908 series was pretty good too.

Seems like there's entirely too much whining over the rainout.

It's a suspended game. Rain and bad weather happens. What do you want to do, play the world series in August? It can rain then too. Play all the games in a dome? Yeah, that's a great idea.

Stop complaining. The games will be played. I'm not talking about people on nsbb, just all the stuff I keep hearing in the media.

Actually, I've noticed a heck of a lot less whining than I expected to hear when the delays first started to become inevitable. Maybe it's because so few people are interested, but most people have taken the "there's nothing you can do" angle, and despite thinking Selig looks dumb, agree that he made the right decision.

There was really no "right" deisicion that Selig could have made. I'm not a Selig fan by any means, and think he's done far more harm to the game than good, however he was damned if he did and damned if he didn't.

That game should have been suspended a lot earlier. You had to swim in between bases. It was horrible and it proved the ineptness of Bud Selig and the umpires.
