Commissioner Roger Goodell notified Adam Jones of the Dallas Cowboys today that he is suspended indefinitely without pay as a result of his most recent violation of the NFL Personal Conduct Policy.

Jones will miss at least the next four games. Commissioner Goodell will determine the final length of the suspension following the Cowboys' Week 11 game against Washington on November 16. The decision on whether Jones can return to play will be based on Jones' strict compliance with his NFL and Dallas Cowboys treatment plans as well as on evaluations of Jones' progress that will be provided to Commissioner Goodell by clinical experts retained by the NFL.

Jones was involved in an alcohol-related physical altercation at a Dallas hotel on October 8 that resulted in hotel employees calling the police. Commissioner Goodell in today's letter to Jones called it a continuation of "a disturbing pattern of behavior and clearly inconsistent with the conditions I set for your continued participation in the NFL."

Jones was suspended for the entire 2007 season for multiple violations of the NFL Personal Conduct Policy. In reinstating Jones on August 28 of this year, Commissioner Goodell said that the player's participation in the NFL depends on demonstrating that he can conduct himself in a socially responsible manner, avoiding any other conduct that brings disrespect to himself, his team, or the NFL.

Panthers have as close to a must-win game this week as it ever gets in Week 7. Carolina is already at a disadvantage to Tampa Bay after getting crushed last week, falling behind them by a half-game in divisional record as well as losing the H2H tiebreaker for now. A loss to New Orleans would do the same thing with regard to the Saints and put Carolina at a 1-2 divisional record. A win probably gives the Panthers some semblance of control of their destiny, while a loss means they'll need help the rest of the way with tough games coming up.

Huge game. Need to contain Bush and stop the pass, which they did a miserable job of last week.

Roy Williams supposedly just got traded to the Cowboys for 2 draft picks, 1 of them a 1st

Good trade for the Lions if true, they're not going anywhere with or without Roy.

Damn, and I was hoping for the rare Roy Williams - Roy Williams trade.

Wow, 2 Roy Williams on the same team.

Good point. How the heck are they goin to distinguish between the 2? Roy E. Williams (WR)?

Roy Williams-WR- Cowboys Oct. 14 - 4:03 pm et

Per Rotowire:

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports that the Cowboys have acquired Roy Williams from the Lions for a first, third, and sixth-round draft pick.

Because the one thing they are missing is a diva wide receiver with an expiring contract. That is a huge bounty for Detroit, especially when no one else wanted Williams. The move smacks of desperation on the heels of an ugly weekend in Dallas, but Williams helps Brad Johnson's chances for short-term success. Still, there are only so many targets to go around. Williams is going to be the third receiving option in a loaded offense and will remain inconsistent. His fantasy stock does goes up for the stretch run once Tony Romo returns. Patrick Crayton takes the biggest hit on the team, but T.O. and Jason Witten will also lose some targets.

Does this help or hurt Calvin Johnson?

there won't be enough footballs on the field for their receiving corps.

Yeah...the Cowboys have 3 legit receivers, the Bears have 0 and we are 1 game different from them.

Stupid is as stupid does. I don't understand why they figured they needed to add Roy Williams, especially at that price. To give up a first and a third rounder to fill an area where you don't need any help at really doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

Huge game for the Packers this week. If we can beat Indy heading into the bye, not only will it give us some much needed momentum, but we'll also be 4-3 with some of our guys that are playing hurt having that extra week to heal up. Al Harris could be back immediately after the bye which is huge news for us, even though Tramon Williams has done a pretty solid job as the #2 corner.

Roy Williams....Good reciever will be better no on the god awful Lions, but the Cowboys gave up way to much and didn't need him that much either. Maybe the Lions will make some good moves without Millen in this draft

I think the Cowboys paid too much for Williams, but that's what Jerry does when he gets fixated on something. My feeling is that the Cowboys have too many injuries to stay afloat, but maybe they will make it. I'm not optimistic about it.

What Williams does is hopefully takes some of the double teams away from Owens. Crayton wasn't consistent enough to do that.

With Romo out four weeks, McBriar done for the season, Roy Williams the safety still out, Newman out for another 4-5 weeks, and Spencer likely out 1-2 weeks, and Felix Jones out 1-2 weeks maybe longer, I just don't see enough bodies for the Cowboys to keep up. With Pacman suspended, Jenkins will have to start alongside Henry for at least four weeks and Scandrick will have to play nickel back. That's 2 rookies manning key positions in the secondary. The trade for Williams will help the offense a little. I think the Cowboys still have enough to beat the Rams on Sunday, but likely lose to Tampa and the Giants before the by week. That would have the Cowboys sitting 5-4 when Romo returns. Roy Williams should be back by then. Newman would probably be a week away.

I think Jerry got desperate with all the injuries and gave in too much. Maybe it will work out, but I'm fearful that it's too little to make a difference.

Roy Williams the safety will return this week and play with a soft cast on. I've seen people saying 2-4 weeks with Felix. Flozell Adams also suffered a stinger and his left arm was numb for most of the game, which is why Laboy pretty much has his way over there. Keith Davis suffered a lacerated thumb and an undisclosed lower body injury. We have signed Sam Paulescu (who was with us last preseason) to take McBriar's spot.

After acquiring Roy Williams (the WR), the Cowboys promptly signed him to an extension through 2013 but no financial details have been released yet.

The injury situation looks pretty bleak, but if the Cowboys can get healthy without losing too much ground, I like the offense with Roy Williams added. Crayton is a very good slot receiver and should see a lot less coverage in that spot. Roy also should take some of the attention away from T.O. which may allow him to get deep more often.

I'm just nervous as hell until we get Newman, Romo, and Felix Jones back.

With Brad Johnson playing QB, we probably won't be going deep very often. I don't think it will hurt us too much though, because one of TO's best routes is that 15 yard crossing route where he can make a play after the catch and Brad should be able to throw that.

Wow, did the Cowboys ever overpay.

Oh, and Roy Williams and T.O. in the same locker room? Getcha popcorn ready.

Roy Williams has always wanted to come back to Texas. With that accomplished and being on a winning team with a new contract, I think he'll be fine.
