Damnit. No Matt Millen and lots of draft picks? The Lions could actually be decent in a few years.

Curses!

They've got a long ways to go though, I think it's going to be at least 3 years before they are actually good. They might make some noise before then, but they are worse than the Wanny Bears.

I agree. They have a lot of holes to fill and only after a couple drafts will they then get filled. And they are missing key elements to a team, not just quantity. LT/QB/RB(Kevin Smith?)G's. Entire DL except for Redding, CBs.

Now on to the Giants who again play another creampuff this week. Ive seen too many in media give this team high praise, best team, 2nd best, etc. The G's only have 1 good win, Washington (opening night 16-7...ooooh). Until they play some better teams i think the talk of them being one of the better teams in the NFL is without merit. When they play Pitt, Philly, Dallas etc. then we will know more where they stand.

Colts got John McCargo from the Bills for (reportedly) a fourth-round pick. He hasn't done much, but was a first-round pick and has much needed size (6'2", 307 lbs.).

Well, so much for that trade. McCargo fails his physical and goes back to the Bills.

Ouch, that sucks. Joseph Addai will also be out 2-4 weeks - not a good week for Colt fans so far.

At least Bob Sanders should be back soon. . .

No Addai and no Sanders should greatly help us out, but the Colts are still a very good team even without them.

the Panthers were an expansion team and made it to the SB in their 2nd year. with the likely #1 pick and 4 more 1st day picks you can reasonably expect with a decent GM to get 5 starters and with the cap space another 3-5 through FA. it's really not improbable (assuming Marinelli's canned) that they could be a factor in the division next season.

unless they take a QB with the #1, or retain Mayhew.

Expansion teams start fresh and don't have to clean up previous messes. They also didn't make the SB in their 2nd year.

you're right, i completely misremembered that for a moment

at any rate, they were still a 1-win team the previous season

Not to pile on your mistakes, but that was 2 seasons before. They were a 7-win team the previous season. :)

In case anyone who was wondering and didnt know, the Packers just missed out on getting Tony Gonzalez. Peterson pulled out 10 min before the trade deadline. Damn.

Jennings,Driver and Gonzalez? Wow that would of been nice.

Anyways, The Packers have a tough game this week. Especially with how Manning and the offense looked last week. If we can pull this out it would be huge with Harris and Bigby coming back soon.

That offense looked almost back to normal against the Ravens even though Addai left in the first quarter.

I now feel more justified in being scared of the Titans/Colts game.

It should be a fun game. Also, Dungy's making it sound like Addai's injury isn't as serious as people are saying, but I have a hard time believing him.

I don't know, Dungy is looking like the new Belichick after hiding Peyton's extra surgery.

Seriously, though, I'm not sure how a torn hamstring could be overstated. Unless the initial reports were factually incorrect, a torn hamstring is going to be difficult to quickly recover from.

And I'm torn on the Titans/Colts game. On one hand, I want the Colts to be playing well so we'll get a great game. But, if the Colts still don't have it completely together, it'll be an easier win (if the Titans can still get it) in a pretty tough stretch of games. It's a fairly underrated rivalry, though, in my opinion.

I'd just like to say that I hope Dallas sends Romo out Sunday. That's equivalent to Yost letting Gallardo stay in the game after he obviously screwed up his knee. They have a good enough team to at the very least make the playoffs, it would be dumb beyond cognition to let him play.

Oh yeah, Philip Rivers for MVP. Glad all that "he's only a byproduct of LT" talk is over and done with. Of course you'd never know from the mass media that he's the best QB in the league right now because his last name isn't Manning or Romo. Or Favre.

PS - Chad Pennington is currently 6th in QB rating right now

Rivers has more yards per pass attempt, more touchdowns, and less interceptions.

How is Brees better?

ETA: and a better passing rating, but I assumed you don't count that stat since Rivers is close to 5 points better than Brees there as well.

Brees basically matches Rivers in everything. Brees has more yards. Brees has done all this without Colston and Shockey. Rivers still has LT, Gates, Chambers, Jackson around him. Brees these past weeks had... David Patten, Billy Miller, and Lance Moore.

Of course one week I get the game in Carbondale, I'll be on the road driving back here. Ugh.

Oh well, Larrivee on the radio should be solid. Interesting about Ty Law. We could always use the depth at CB. Tramon Williams has been more than solid filling in for Harris, but if we could get Law, our corner depth would be deadly with the return of Harris in the next few games.

Brees has more yards largely because the Saints throw the ball downfield more. Rivers throws more short yardage passes as opposed to Brees throwing it vertically more often.

Harris, Woodson,Williams and Law would make me smile. And with Harris being out it has been a great experiance for Tramon to start. Its going to make him better when he goes back to being a nickle back.

Brees has more yards because he's thrown the ball 60 more times. Plus, as stated by dew, the saints probably throw the ball downfield more often. LT has not been a weapon this year, he's averaged 3.7 ypc, he's been hurt. Chambers was out last week.

To be honest, I know little about the Saints receiving corps. But I do know that Reggie Bush has 361 yards receiving and I don't think those are post routes, I believe they are "drop the ball off to Reggie and see what happens" routes.

I'm not saying Brees is bad at all; I think he's one of the top QBs. But he hasn't been better than Rivers.

I never heard that Rivers talk, but admittedly I don't clue into the Chargers and their detractors very often.

I can't decide if it's a bad decision to play Romo or not. On one hand, the guy will be one hit away from possibly shattering that pinky and being out for the year. That would effectively end the Cowboys' season, IMO, because while Brad Johnson might be good for a few starts, he's not going to carry anyone past the best defenses in the league. And it's questionable whether Romo will be able to hang on to the football (regardless of whether he can throw it). On the other hand, these are pretty desperate times for the 'Boys when you think about it. They're in a dogfight for the division against a couple of the best teams in the NFC -- they can't afford to be dropping games, really at all.

It's actually a pretty tough position that Jerry & Wade find themselves in.

Ok lets me honest here. I don't really like Phillip Rivers. I think he is a D-Bag.

I knew that he was having a very good year, and then I looked it up to be sure and his numbers were even better then I thought. It basically killed every argument I had. (Besides the yards, and yes I know they the throw the ball 102402 times a game. I needed something tho).

However, I know LT has been hurt and struggling, that still is not making teams not try to stop him. He is still a threat to the defense. I guarentee teams still try to stop LT before they try to stop Rivers.

Again, I didn't realize he was having that good of a year, Im just saying I would still take Drew Brees right now.

The Niners have been one of the sorriest teams in the NFL this decade and the Cowboys haven't won a playoff game since what, 1997?

Carolina isn't that bad.
