Cubs.com says I'm about 62,000 away. Just about perfect for the next playoff run.

According to my earlier post in this thread, I've moved up 10-15,000 spots in 3 years.

Considering I'm still listed at 19006, you're probably a hell of a lot closer than 62,000 away.

I got the email too, don't remember where I was in line. I assume nothing will be left for the people in the 10000 range?

I'd be surprised. I'm currently still in the 14,000s.

I would guess that there will be a pretty high rate of people turning down the opportunity. There's a reason they emailed at least 19-20k people.

I got the email as well, but I'm still not sure about making a solo financial commitment and I am weighing my options.

Would anyone here be interested in going in on tickets together? We could talk about specifics and get something written up to ensure that you are guaranteed a partial ownership of the tickets going forward. Although the Cubs only recognize 1 owner, we could certainly write something up that details what each person is entitled to, even if we have to get a lawyer involved to formalize it. If anyone might be interest in that sort of arrangement, send me a PM and we can talk about it.

Checked my number, I'm at 15000. Hopefully my number won't get called this year.

How many 100+ loss seasons before there is no wait list? Not that it matters, because I think we're done with 100 loss seasons. Just wondering.

there are like 150,000 people on the list

With this economic climate do you think there would be a wait list in the offseason of 2014-2015 if they lost 100 games in 2013 and 2014?

Because of the prices and lack of demand I lost $1600 last year on a bleacher combo plan. I could not sell Opening Day, either White Sox game or the Sunday Red Sox game for face value. I'm sure a lot of people that did not renew were first-time season ticket holders last year that thought they could recoup costs on selling half their games. When those tickets are averaging $10-20 per ticket, you start losing money really fast. Also, I'm sure many of these people have not updated their account info and the Cubs will never be able to get ahold of them. I think they would burn through the list pretty fast.

There will be a wait list, but it will be filled with people who aren't serious about actually spending the money if/when their name is called.

If you only lost $1600 last year, I would say you did fairly well. Are there any tax benefits to be gained by claiming a loss on ticket sales? Is there any way to write those losses off?

I'm sure that is a majority of people right now, but if the Cubs are good in 2 years tickets could quickly become a money-making proposition again. Remember how few people were giving up their tickets just a few short years ago? If the Cubs become a consistent contender, someone buried 50,000+ spots deep on the waiting list may have to wait many years before getting the chance to buy tickets.

He didn't suffer any losses.

saw a couple of people post their experiences here on doing the ST buying event. I forgot I even signed up for the ST waiting list a long time ago and just got an email saying i can go on Saturday and look at available seats. I have no plans to purchase season tickets at this point, but wanted to see if there was any value in going just for fun. what do you do there, just walk around the field and look at the open seats, or are there meetings and sales pitches and stuff? It's not like going to a timeshare meeting is it?

No, you just walk around. They put colored sheets on the available seats at different price ranges and you can just check out the views, etc.

Informal.

I would definitely go just for the fun of it. No pressure at all.

I picture people running through the gates like Black Friday shoppers. Somehow I doubt that picture is accurate.

This is correct. In fact, if you get there early there might even be some coffee and donuts left.

But yeah, I'd go if I were you. An opportunity to walk around the park is always nice.

I went this morning and was surprised at the sheer number of seats available. In the lower level, there were scattered good seats in Field Box and Terrace Box/Reserved and large quantities in the corners. There did not appear to be any Upper Deck Reserved tickets available, but there were huge blocks of Upper Deck Box tickets throughout the entire level. There were some areas in the Upper Deck where nearly entire sections were available. There are going to be a lot of new season ticket holders this year. What remains to be seen is whether seats will continue to turnover at a high rate or if this was a one-time occurrence due to a combination of the team's performance and StubHub brokers having their tickets canceled.

Man, I don't go until 4, and I'm assuming that's the last group of the day. God knows what will be left.

Nope, there's today and tomorrow.

Mine was 4:00 too, but considering I was 19,006 on the list, I was paranoid I'd wind up with terrace reserved or bust. (If you pass on bowl seating you go to the end of the line. You can choose to get bleachers if you don't like any of the bowl sitting, but I was also paranoid that so many people by that time would opt for bleachers over shitty bowl seats.

[expletive], there were upper deck box available this morning? I may have screwed myself.

If I had to guess based on what I saw, there will still be plenty of seats available (especially Upper Deck Box). There will probably be a decent selection of Field Box down the lines too. There weren't many people rushing for the higher-priced seats. I saw a lot of people going for Terrace Reserve Infield and Outfield.
