Thursday, November 1, 2012

12:00 p.m. and 6:10 p.m.

As another benefit of being a Chicago Cubs Season Ticket Holder, we are planning to host a Cubs Season Ticket Holder Fan Forum. The Cubs Season Ticket Holder Fan Forum is a chance for you to ask questions directly to Cubs players and management in a conference call format.

We plan to host two Cubs Season Ticket Holder Fan Forum sessions Thursday, November 1. The sessions, moderated by Cubs TV broadcaster Len Kasper...

I want to come up with a really good question to ask and would like input.

Ask why they can't build up the farm system while spending responsibly on free agents (which might be moot because I expect them to do that to a decent extent this year).

We're going to the select-a-seat this year. We had the bleachers combo pack last year. I bet we do the same thing, but I just want to have an idea of what is available to me. If people are dropping like flies and they took those seats from the scalpers there might be something better.

When your number gets called (off the wait list), how does it work? Do you get to choose how many you want to buy?

Last year I had the option to buy 1-6. Since I don't live in Chicago currently and they suck I asked If I bought 2 now if I could increase that total later. They said it would depend on how many people do not renew. I would get the chance to increase the total to 3-6 before they would extend offers to others on the wait list.

Do you recall what the pricing was like in terms of what tickets were actually available to the new people? You can PM me if you'd prefer.

I got a spreadsheet of the costs this season. I did it so I could keep a record each year of past prices. I'll find a way to get it to you this afternoon. The only thing available my first year was Upper Deck Box OF and Bleachers.

They have extended the combo packs (nights, Saturdays, Sundays, Opening Day, Memorial Day or Labor Day - 57 games this year) to all of the seating sections besides Club Box IF, Club Box OF, Field Box IF and Field Box OF. I think it's a much better value. Only down side is you only get tickets to two games in each postseason series instead of 3 or 4. You can always upgrade to the full 81, but again subject to availability.

I didn't even realize that I ever signed up. I guess I did as I am 17,427 on the waiting list. It does say that it has not updated since all the off-season changes. I guess I'll end up around 14,000-15,000 once it adjusts.

Good guess. I am 14,802 now.

Just checked and I am now at 10,019. At this rate I guess my number may be called in 2-3 years. Better start saving!

Yikes. Just checked and I'm at 4,029 now.

Damn, nice jump! I'm up to 8,105 so the light at the end of the tunnel is getting closer.

I'm not ready to be called yet. I'm hoping for 2015, but could probably manage by the spring of 2014.

I could've waited another 5 years or so, but I'm not complaining too much because if I had gotten the call a year earlier there is no way I could have done it.

On that note if anybody wants to buy my tickets this year... If even drive to Chicago to meet you in person. I would be willing to sell at a loss so I don't have to worry about getting rid of them throughout the year.

Since there seems to be a fair amount of interest on how all of this works, I just got a call from my ticket rep and asked him questions for a good 15 minutes. He expects I can move into Terrace Reserved IF this year if I choose (my second season). He said it would be more difficult if I had 4 tickets.

They are pushing hard to "buy the seats you want now because they likely won't be available when we start winning." Although he also was pushing the upper deck seats hard too. I got the impression they don't want me to renew in the bleachers.

He said the people they revoked had 15+ tickets per account and sold every single one on StubHub. He suggested I try to find a way to use "8 or 9 games" per year if I don't want this to happen to me in the future...

"We're expecting things to turn around here."

If you buy all 81 games you get priority on seat selection over those who buy the combo. Duh.

There was some other stuff but it's time for me to leave work...

The only thing I'm afraid of is if we don't get the call in the next couple years we might reach a point again where the team is on the upswing and nobody is giving up their seats. Obviously that is a good problem to have, but I just want to make it to the front of the line before it happens!

Which is exactly why I would do everything necessary to get tickets when my name is called. Last I heard the wait list was over 120K. When (if?) we get good, those tickets will be scarce and worth a ton.

Another piece of info. If you pay with a check instead of a credit card you get a second season ticket holder gift. This year it is a signed Rizzo ball.

What other kind of fun stuff do you get with the season tickets?

Last year I got a paper weight of the Wrigley marquee that said, "CHICAGO CUBS SEASON TICKET HOLDER". Nothing amazing.

I absolutely cannot afford any kind of season tickets. I'm hoping by the time 15K more people pass I'll at least be able to front the money before selling off to family and friends. The nights-and-weekends plan would be pretty terrific.

What I wonder (and I'm sure the Cubs have this information) is what percentage of entries on the Season Ticket waiting list actually buy tickets when they are called?

I would guess it is only a small percentage who do buy them. Some people have probably lost interest, others have moved away, others can't afford them, others were never serious in the first place, others were duplicate entries, etc. I would be really interested to know the actual percentage though.

I don't think they offer this anymore unless it's grandfathered in.

Actually, they do and have expanded it to more seating locations this season.

Got the email to go on Saturday, December 8th. Probably going to pass as I am already a 1/4 holder in season tickets with friends. Was hoping I'd get the call in about 5 years to get my own seats for my family. Oh well.

Also, for clarification on the above discussion, the Combo plan is only available for the Budweiser Bleachers.
