I don't understand how this is unconventional, Chip. 4 for 7 is not nearly enough to base that decision when lh vs. lh is something that has been proven over time.

Jason Bay OPS's 70 points less than JD Drew vs. LHP.

I still think that most managers would have made that move.

Let's just agree that Boston sucks a big one. I'm confident if Boston had up Ted Williams' severed head, he would have ripped a double off the green monster.

batting right handed

i guess we can all say that boston has a horseshoe up their butt, but there's something to be said for a talented team that gets into the playoffs and, despite the pressure and expectations of millions of their fans, they are still able to play the game loose and compete at the same level they competed at during the regular season.

Boston sports this decade top the Florida Gators circa 2006-2007 as the worst thing to ever happen in sports.

you mean from the batter's box to the left of the catcher? not sure you could call it "right handed" in this scenario.

Two more, Boston. Beat the Rays!!

I don't think Boston has enough to complete the comeback, but who knows. I thought they were done when they were down 5-0 in the seventh, and that was before they gave up two more runs.

Ouch man. Your words. They hurt

Seriously though. This is exactly the sort of thing we've been hoping the Cubs would be able to do. Now when it happens with another club, I can't just dismiss it as a fluke. It's the kind of fluke that comes from having a good ballclub that doesn't give up -- ever. In other words, yeah there's some luck involved, but Boston showed talent and focus as well.

Now we'll see if Tampa can play with pressure. Because I've got a feeling this is the first time all year they're really feeling it. They had this thing in the bag. Fans or no fans, they've got to be feeling pressure to end this thing without going to a game 7.

The Red Sox completed the second largest comeback in postseason history yesterday at 7 runs. The largest was in this game in the 1929 World Series. The team that completed the eight run comeback was the Philadelphia A's. The team that gave up the lead? None other than the Chicago Cubs.

And to think I was trying to remember. Of course it was the Cubs. The Hack Wilson game where he lost two fly balls in the sun.

That's what they get for trying to extend Charley Root that long. He was clearly tiring.

I think that HR knocked a satellite out of orbit.

yeah unfortunately all those baseball prognosticators who said "lidge will never be the same" were dead on the money. oh wait never mind, he hasn't blown a save in 2008.

Huh

Only a handful of people realized it at the time, but when some Red Sox officials were watching replays of the Game 5 comeback, they noticed that Rays reliever J.P. Howell never called timeout before angrily throwing away a ball and demanding another during the Drew at-bat. That moment came after Howell had thrown a bad pitch to Drew and catcher Dioner Navarro tossed the ball back to the pitcher. Upset over the pitch, Howell fired the ball away and held up his glove for a replacement. The ball he threw away wound up bouncing into the Rays' dugout for what should have been a two-base error to score Kevin Youkilis from second base.

I'm in a live chat for the IU-Illinois football game and somebody said Turner had a power outage in Atlanta and that is why the game is not on right now.
