Methinks Boston and especially David Ortiz is missing Manny Ramirez more then they are letting on. Jason Bay is a fine player and has play well for Boston since the trade, but Jason Bay is NO Manny Ramirez and because of this fact TB has been able to neutralize Ortiz. And without Ortiz hitting, the Red Sox offensive is simply mediocre despite some intriguing talents.

I won't say this series is over, because of last yr, but if Ortiz don't start hitting then BoTox season will be over soon.

They're not missing Manny at all. Manny wouldn't be doing in Boston what he's doing in LA had he not been traded.

I disagree. Without Manny, teams can and will pitch around David Ortiz whose career was made by hitting before Manny. Say what you want about Manny, but he added a swagger you don't see with the Red Sox right now. And I promise with Manny, they wouldn't be down 3-1.

Would Manny be able to magically improve Ortiz' health?

If he's hurt then why is he playing? But unless it's a major injury to his wrist, or knee or something like that there is no reason why he shouldn't hit. So you may blame it on him being injuried (which is an excuse, IMO and not a legit reason) but I think it's because you lose Manny, you lose any reason to pitch to Ortiz.

Look at the "By day/month" catergory. After July his numbers got progressively worse, when historically he really hits from July on. So, I don't by him being injured. Teams pitched around Ortiz.

.890 OPS in August, .904 OPS in September.

Had an .860 OPS before Manny was traded (233 at bats) and a .900 OPS after Manny was traded (183 at bats).

I believe Ortiz's injury is an injury to the wrist.

Correct.

He has also gone 45 at-bats without a home run since Sept. 22, growing evidence that full strength has yet to return to the left wrist in which a tendon injury had shelved him for nearly two months in the middle of the season.

Ortiz shrugs off any remaining physical problems, but Francona's evasiveness when asked the same thing could be telling.

"I don't think he's perfect," Francona said after some hesitation, "but I don't want to sit him. If he takes one good swing ... even when he's scuffling, that could change a ballgame."

He has no bat speed whatsoever and neither has Drew.

Their offense is Pedroia, Youkilis, and Bay right now with the rest not doing a lick.

The difference is OPS is .917 to .738.

Utley was the closest player to a .917 OPS at .915. Fukudome had a .738. That's quite a difference.

This game sure has been fun to watch.

Silence in Beantown is such a sweet sound.

Maybe we'll hear a Papelbon interview after the game, because I'd sure love to hear what he'd have to say about this series!

Something along the lines of, "for us, payback was a bitch."

The Red Sox crowd was booing Big Papi... Wow.

Trade that postseason choker! He'll never perform on a big stage!

This series has been a butt kicking.

This is like the kid who got picked on in like 1st grade, decided he was not going to take it anymore. Worked out, and by the time high school came around the kid decided to beat the hell out of the bully. And not just beat him up but the Rays are giving the Red Sox a curb stomping right now.

I don't understand that. If it weren't for him the Yankees would have beat the Cardinals in 2004 instead of the Red Sox. If a player ever did that much for the Cubs to win a WS (I don't care who it is, much less a perenial all-star) I could never boo him.

The Tampa Bay Rays are going to reach a modern World Series before we do.

Wow.

I'm sure next year's world series will be Nationals/Rangers, because I've already figured out that this decade was intended to screw over the Cubs.

So far in this decade:

-Cubs blow 6.5 game lead in July to miss the playoffs

-Cubs win their first playoff series since 1908 but blow a 3-1 lead in the NLCS

-Cubs get best team in many years, but they are all whiny babies and collapse and miss the playoffs

-White Sox win World Series

-Cardinals win World Series

-Cubs win back to back division crowns but fair to win a playoff game either year.

-The second of those titles is the best Cubs season in 63 years, and team self implodes in playofs
